Very very good movie
A testament to the human spirit, camaraderie of men, of courage, bravery...everything redeeming about mankind in general, really. I JUST finished what turned out to be a somewhat exhausting movie to watch here, it could be quite brutal, but it definitely leaves you with a solid sense of what people are capable of under the right circumstances.
Not just Jan, the saboteur trying to make his way back home, but those who helped him along the way, risking their lives, the lives of their family members...risking everything to help usher along this journey what became a symbol of hope for these Nazi-occupied people.
For all those who'd point to Hitler and his regime's evils and declare it as evidence of the true nature of man, or to what vile extent man is capable of performing, I'd point them to this movie...it will leave a lasting impression on its viewers of everything redeeming about ourselves. The flip side of the coin.
Beautifully shot, incredibly well acted, this movie is one of a very few that carries this powerful of a message, IMO.
Must watch. And must watch out for dust at the end.
