This movie makes no sense.
I don't think the story of Mark Hogancamp was worthy of a film. It's kinda weird to begin with (a man playing with dolls), and the way it's portayed in the movie is even weirder. Why are these women drawn to Mark? Yes, he was the victim of a brutal crime and lost parts of his memory, but he's mostly creepy and not likable at all.
Also, why make the attackers neo-nazis in the movie while in reality they were a bunch of random teenagers?
