Did anyone hear what the Demon said to Kat on the phone????
I couldn't understand a word......
shareI couldn't understand a word......
shareNor I. Just another "huh?" in a film riddled with them.
shareIt was mostly static and a mumbling, I think that's another way of showing that only Kat could "understand" what was being said. There weren't any words that "normal" people could hear.
They're coming to get you, Barbara!
Ok...so we all basically agree that it was unclear, but I still think that there were words there. I am waiting (and seeking) an English subtitle file for this flick....that should clear it all up. Anyone got a link for English subs???
shareI picked up a few words, (I think it said "kill" at one point), but it wasn't, like, a sentence nor a human voice. Kat already knew her parents weren't coming, whether because she killed them or there was a car accident that hadn't been noticed right away (I'm thinking maybe drove into a snowbank). My interpretation is that it was to underscore that the phone wasn't actually ringing and she wasn't actually dialing/calling anyone.
I need to watch it again to see if there are more clues about her parents, that was the only "loose end" (and it may not be, I just missed something).
They're coming to get you, Barbara!
Okay, started watching it again after work, and it says a few things that I could pick up - the first time, she's the one who makes the call, and it's just static mostly, but the voice says "they're not coming." After that, "it" calls her (phone appears to be ringing during Kat's section, but when we watch the scene from Rose's perspective you don't hear it), and says "you can stay with me" and "bring me the heads" or something close to that.
They're coming to get you, Barbara!
I think too this is connected to her own mumbling and why she is also hard to understand at times, same as her "daddy"
shareNope. I also had trouble understanding some of Kat's lines, she was mumbling or maybe it's just me.
For me it was pretty clear that Kat's parents died in a car accident that was kind of shown in the very beginning. That is why the headmaster calls the school and arrives there with the police, to tell Kat her parents have died. My interpretation was the "demon" or the evil what ever it was, showed it to Kat in her dream before it was noticed or the parents had been found dead so she would be more prone to the following sinister events. Kat knew all along her parents were not coming, that she was all alone now...
I love message boards!!! I ask a completely straight forward question and it goes off on some other path that happens to answer my most nagging question so....thanks everyone. I was, (like so many others) feeling uncertain at the end and having to stew in in till the answers started to come, with of course the wonderful help of posters.
The only thing that really was left hanging for me was the beginning, and the whole "parents" scenario, the smashed car, the dream, the "person" that answered her parents phone etc, but low and behold...it now makes perfect sense! Thanks again.
I also want to say that the longer I think about the movie the higher my rating becomes. I thought this movie was really good when it ended. Now I think it's frickin' brilliant. Its been 24 hours and I still can't stop thinking about it. Questioning, coming to realizations, talking about it. It went form an 8 working its way to a 10 fast. I've never given a "horror" flick a 10. I'm impressed.
To me 1st call out sound like it said, "Kill them! They're not coming. Kill all in the House."
Second call sound like "Stay here with me. I will comfort or care for you.
Makes sense... well heard!
shareThat's awesome. You must have great audio. I appreciate the info. It actually makes the movie a bit more comprehendable as now it makes sense about the connection between her and the demon. It established relationship, which makes the endind and her neediness make sense...even though it is twisted.
shareIn the first call, all I could hear it say was "they're not coming," so good catch on the rest of it!
In the second one, it definitely says "bring me the heads" and (I believe) "you can stay with me" or "you can stay here," which is part of the conversation she had earlier with the headmaster.
This is still why I question whether it could be interpreted as mental illness (as well as demon possession), because Rose's urban legend about the nuns "burning their eyebrows off" whilst worshiping satan down in the basement put the idea in her head about the demon demanding sacrifices by the furnace (she makes her first trip down to the furnace after the story, which is where Rose finds her after meeting with her boyfriend).
They're coming to get you, Barbara!
I couldnt understand what was said during the phone call but by the end i assumed that the demon told her to kill which is why she killed again years later in an attempt to get her demon back but she realised it wasn't coming back hence the tears at the end
shareI heard, "Kill all the *beep*
shareI heard "Kill all the *beep* in the house" or something along those lines, right at the very end of the conversation. Then again that could be be my filthy mind being overactive again. Haha! Pretty sure there was something about staying with "him" as well though.
