Very inventive
The stories that inhabit Matteo Garrone’s wildly inventive Tale of Tales are the stuff that dreams are made of — and nightmares, too. Adapting a collection of 17th-century stories by Giambattista Basile, Garrone’s film follows several characters inhabiting a mythical, mystical kingdom where sea monsters lurk at the bottom of clear-blue waters, ogres carry off young princesses, and fleas can grow to the size of potbelly pigs. It’s weird, wild stuff, and it looks stunning and ornate: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/tale-of-tales/
