Interweave, yeah right!

"interweave three separate story strands"

No they don't! They only come together at the end where they are at the same wedding. It's more like 3 different stories, put into one movie, having nothing to do with one anothter..

reply

Not disagreeing with the fact that they hardly interweave, but they also come together in the beginning when all three kingdoms are present at the funeral of the King who slays the sea monster. Then again at the end during the coronation of Violet. So twice, once at the beginning and once at the end, not just at the end like you stated.

Also, the traveling circus artists influence all the three stories. First we see them upset Salma Hayek's character while the wife is pregnant, leading the king to summon the necromancer that sets everything in motion. Then 16 years later we see them entertain Vincent Cassel's character and his guests. Then we see them meet their ultimate fate because of Bebe Cave's character.

Excellent point. Atleast something connects the the kingdom.

But it's basically a week script writing.

reply

I would've enjoyed more connection as well.

I was expecting at the end that we would find out that all the stories were more interwoven than we were able to see during the story but not so much.

Glad the princess ended up happy though :-)

reply

Why did they have to be interwoven? And was she happy? Her father never paid attention to her, betrayed her, had people die because of the Ogre whom had also raped her.

reply

I said the princess ~ended~ happy. She was no longer under the rule of her father, she slayed the ogre and was rid of him and she was now free to be able to do whatever she wanted. You just stated everything that happened to her ~during~ the story.

Being interwoven in a new and interesting way that isn't expected is nice. The story was fine but this thread is about those of us who expected more of a surprise connection revealed at the end.

reply

That is still an assumption that she is "happy." I don't think people get over rape quickly even they have rid of the perpetrator.

reply

It's an assumption to say that I think she's "gotten over" her rape. This is a fairy tale it's not that serious lol.

Most people don't get the satisfaction of killing their rapist by the way.
