Which three tales of Giambattista Basile is this based upon?
Any insights would be most welcome.

shareThey are all from the same fairy-tales collection "Lo cunto de li cun-ti" also know as "Pentamerone", the stories are "La cerva fatata" (The enchanted doe), "La pulce" (The flea) and "La vecchia scorticata" (The three sisters).
shareWonderful, thanks!
shareThats only partly true: The stories mentioned are adapted, sometimes heavily. It seems that Garrone took elements from various stories and mixed them as he pleased.
shareAnd he did it very well ill think (:
Indeed. An amazing film.
shareFor some reason, it did remind me of the Taviani brothers' mythical "Kaos".
shareI agree! I suppose it was the Mediterranean setting and the excellent direction!

Hi there! I believe that the English title of "La Vecchia Scorticata" is something like "The Flayed Old Lady" or "The Old Lady Who Was Skinned", since the "Three Sisters" story seems to be totally unrelated to what we saw on screen (as far as I can tell from its Wikipedia description). I've found a summary of the story here: http://listverse.com/2012/12/05/top-10-truly-disturbing-fairy-tales/
It seems the movie followed the original pretty closely.

Thanks very much for this.
