Very unexpected movie
Dark, creepy, sometimes disgusting but highly captivating. It reminded me of brothers Grimm tales. Not the kids version but the actual tales.

I completely agree. I wish there were more films like this.
shareBravo! A surprise and a pleasure, folklore with a crunch. Never heard of this before, discovered it by telling my X1 box to "find me a fantasy movie." I'm very familiar with German, French, Celtic and Norse fables, not so much with Italian, so this movie broadened my horizons, always a good thing. It is surprising, shocking, funny, horrific, disgusting, violent and dazzling. The acting and production design are much better than usual for a fantasy movie, e.g., the vomitous Maleficent. The final shot is perfect. We humans don't experience perfection often. If, like I do, you love fantasy, check it out, and stick with it to the end. There are some repulsive scenes that may incline you to cut and run (they did that to me) but hang in there. You'll be glad that you did.
shareWatched this last night, came across it on Netflix.
I thoroughly enjoyed it,right up my street.I can't believe it passed me by.
I hated how much I loved it! I could not pull away! These are only three stories out of 50. I may have read that wrong. I believe it inspired brothers grim. the real stories we grew up reading were much worse then you know. Very well done this show was. I hope they make the rest!
shareMinka, do you mind if I ask how you came by your username? I have a friend who was quite famous in certain entertainment circles who used Minka as her professional name. I’ve never seen anyone else use that name.
It was my cats name in high school. I know there is a Minka comic book person that has the same first and last name as me its strange, I found her by googling my first and last name. It has been my e mail address since the late 90's My actual name has been mine since 1970. If that is the same Minka, and you know her, tell her I freaked out at the fact I saw the coincidence. I had no idea who she was when I chose my email address. I think her name is Minx though.
shareThank you for your reply. It’s a very nice name. “My” Minka only goes by the one name. By the way, I’m glad you enjoyed the movie. If you enjoy unusual approaches to “fairy tales,” you may enjoy the recent NBC TV series, Emerald City. You may find it on-demand or online. I hated the first episode, by the end (it only ran one season), I was enthralled, especially by the Wicked Witch of the West. I have the series on Blu-ray. All the episodes were directed by Tarsem Singh, and they have outstanding production values and are visually stunning.
And you are right: “fairy tales” are really not for children!
Russian I believe. I thought I made it up when I was younger and was surprised to find it was a real name. Never been a wizard of Oz person. I believe I did see a touch of it a while back. I don't think it brought me in. I may have to take another look at it. I do like the odd films. I really enjoyed Mama!
shareDazed, I am SO HAPPY that you enjoyed this! I just now saw your post. I like sharing things with you.
I don’t know how much music matters to you. Have you ever looked into my favorite pop singer, Eva Cassidy?
I love music, I love Helen Jane Long, Ludovico Einaudi, Hillary Stagg, but not many singers.
shareAre you familiar with Vanessa-Mae, the Chinese violinist? She plays both Classical and World Fusion, though I think that she is better at the latter. I enjoy her very much, especially her albums Storm and Choreography. My father was a musician and composer, and my mother was a dancer. I design custom high-end audio and home theater systems. Music nourishes our soul.
shareI thought it was a beautifully filmed, incoherent, nonsensical, pointless waste of time.
