Did anyone else feel sorry for the dragon?
It wasn't his fault that the king was a moron and yes he killed those guys who saved the princess but they tried to kill him first.

shareYou mean the ogre not the dragon probably. Yes it wasn't his fault but personally I don't know how or why he thought it was a good idea to claim a princess in the first place, I think at the end he only wanted the company, so he could be anyone you know. I feel sorry for both the ogre and the princess, the father should have just died
shareI think he meant the dragon, the underwater sea creature, that the first King killed near the beginning of the film. I felt sorry for it, but such is nature -- at least their superstition was accurate.
shareHe/She said "he killed those guys who saved the princess" so there's no way he is referring to the sea dragon at the start.
Assuming you're talking of the ogre, the circus artists never tried to kill him, he went after them after they rescued the princess. What they attempted to do in response is called self-defense.
Besides, he was a brutal rapist and never even tried to be nice in the least to the girl he basically won at the lottery and was keeping as a prisoner and sex slave. So feeling bad for such a person is quite absurd to begin with.
That was pretty much the definition of marriage in the Middle Ages.
Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

Yes, because he went after them on the rope after they rescued the princess. Learn to read before you say someone else is wrong.
shareYes, I did and I'd like to believe a lot of other people did, too, and the reason for this, I think, is that the dragon is portrayed as just a sea creature. It is not a CGI-fuelled, Hollywood beast like the ones we have been used to.
That's what makes it likeable and beautiful.
PS: I also felt bad for the ogre, to be honest :D

He seemed to demonstrate genuine affection for Violet--just before she slit his throat.
One of the movie's themes is moral ambiguity/nuance: while the ogre was not a paragon of virtue, neither was he all bad--nor were many of the various kings and other characters.

How can anyone feel sorry for a creature of myth that is made of CGI for a movie?
shareI felt bad for the sea dragon.
I did not feel bad for the Ogre. I felt bad for his victims.
It was a story not reality... so I didn't experience the feeling of sorrow for any creature in the playing out of the tales for the purpose of moving the plot along. What I did feel, was shock when she slit his throat after making up to him. I expected it to go along the lines of "Beauty and the Beast" and when she showed tenderness towards him, his crude exterior was supposed to fall away and he was supposed to become a handsome prince!! Didn't happen!! This is a thoroughly modern young woman who takes matters into her own hands and succeeds in her intent. Her character grew from being a sheltered airhead to being able to take care of herself.
