Awesome thriller
Check it out. It´s pretty interesting. I highly recommended it.
shareI totally agree with you. In addition to this, the actors are perfect. I recommend everybody to see this movie.
shareThis movie is great. I wasn't expecting that much quality. The photography was outstanding
shareAgree!
shareAmazing film. It truly depicts how awful Spain was in the eighties. Very realistic ending by the way. As always, the powerful escape justice.
shareYeah this movie shows how awful Spain was in the eighties, as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre shows how awful the US was... The action is set in a lost rural village somewhere in a marshland ... you can't really extrapolate it. The eighties in Spain is also Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, not that awful if you check that one, really.
shareI think he's talking about the political context of Spain post-Franco - where a lot of the Spanish Civil war issues and the political suppression and torture of those who opposed the regime was still fresh in everyone's minds.
The culture of fascism and protection of important people was still very strong even though the country was democratic by this point. This culture made policing difficult which the film shows very well.
Almodovar's films are political too, but in a different kind of way.
Check out a great Korean movie with similar themes - "Memories of Murder" (Salinui chueok)- serial killer in the Korean countryside killing women, inept local police, city detectives assigned to assist, near-end of the dictatorship political environment etc etc.
One of my favourite Korean films and as good as La Isla Minima.

8/10 easily among the best films I've seen
shareI agree. Absolutely brilliant
shareMaybe not wildly original - the sort of thing BBC4 might show in its foreign-language detective drama slot on a Saturday night... Odd couple detectives and sexual violence against women are hardly uncommon in the crime genre. But, this was well-written, well-acted and, at some points, really atmospheric... Some excellent cinematography and good use of the landscape - the Guadalquivir Marshes in Andalusia - make it somewhat more memorable than it might otherwise have been... Having been really underwhelmed by "Eden" last week, I had wondered whether I really wanted to bother with this or not. But, it's a good film and I'm glad I made the effort.
shareA good watch (No pun intended). A very good thriller. It doesn't cover much new ground but it's a well directed/acted and beautifully shot movie.
