Why was blood in Juan's urine?

There was a random scene in the movie with Juan urinating blood and then passing out. I realize that blood in urine can be the result of a number of medical conditions, but that scene seemed really out of place and there was no explanation later on in the film for its inclusion.

I think we're supposed to get the impression that he is dying of prostate cancer, but continuing to work to make up for his past

Ah yes, it's true that he was taking some sort of pills throughout the film. I forgot about that.

But she has no real "talent" so she can't be taken seriously.

Well she must have, she was right.

How did you come up with prostate cancer? Pedro says early in the film that Juan is involved with brothels, so it's obviously related to that. I also think that the idea of his regret is much more nuanced than that too. The things he did under Franco seem to stop him from sleeping, and also perhaps cause him to kill Sebastian so violently (possibly seeing the part of himself which he hates in that character), but it also allows him to enables him to violently interrogate people involved in the case, he appears to be (outwardly at least) in denial about what he did, and at the end seems to think that he's a good guy.

I was thinking a bad STD, or perhaps bladder cancer. Either way, he's toast.
