How did they get to the pool, and then into the building, without being spotted? A bunch of them all carrying appliances. Was it a case of being in a run-down area with nobody really about? The pool was filled, so must've been in use fairly recently.

They likely were seen by people in the area but nobody cared.
I'm pretty sure the pool was closed at that moment of time without any security guards around. Yes the pool was filled and the building is probably still in use but it's not a 24/7 operation. They broke in and set the whole thing up whilst it was closed.
