What if you constantly stayed airborne?

Just kidding... but that's what I liked best about this movie. It's a "Night of the Living Dead" or "The Omega Man" scenario. It pits dumb-and-steady against smart-and-fast.

I spent the whole movie thinking of how I'd protect myself. I came up with -- living on a boat and never docking. Or constantly moving in an R.V. The "thing" didn't seem impossibly strong, so maybe living in a concrete bunker with steel doors. People could visit you by helicopter or have a secret password to getin

None of this is practical, of course. Did anybody come up with a better solution to this classic horror film scenario?

You don't own a boat, cannot get food, cannot make money to pay for food or gas.

Best solution here would be to employ yourself as a trucker. Join the Navy or be a Pilot is also good. you'd still have to protect yourself onshore, and you'd have to make it thru bootcamp and other situations where you cant leave a room or compound for long periods of time.

You aren't super rich. No one is going to do this for you. Life would be horrible even with visitors. Confining yourself to a mental hospital padded room might be feasible, but can't work too long.

I just suggested elsewhere, if you have a group of close friends who believe you as in the film:

Orgy so everyone has the sight and can fight.
Trap in Metal cage on all sides. Dismember and burn body to ash. Keep ash near so you can watch it, or disperse ash.

For a movie that's a warning about STDs, it's funny that the most effective way to fight it in my opinion is to make sure a lot of people have unprotected sex with each other.

Good points - there are fewer options if you have no money.

Long haul trucker could be a good job. But round trips are a problem.

Obviously, prostitute is also a good career.

Maybe a prostitute at a truck stop?

Travel and live overseas. It would take forever to follow you across oceans.

Or a shorter solution. Go overseas, sleep with someone and come back. It would then have to travel to that country kill whoever you slept with before it comes back.

To make it harder sleep with a hooker overseas who will then sleep with plenty of other people also overseas. It would never come back

It would still show up no matter where you go. It could show up on a plane, a boat, and a space shuttle. You can't hide.

It doesn't seem to have any ability to teleport, for lack of a better word. From what the movie shows, the being travels by walking, and it may have the ability to swim as well, but it doesn't use common technology. To get aboard an "always airborne" vehicle, it would have to hitch a ride on another aircraft, wait for that aircraft to reach a higher altitude than the target vehicle, and fall down onto the target. Seemingly it wouldn't be able to get aboard a spacecraft almost at all.

Well, no aircraft can be constantly airborne, it needs to refuel, you also need to replenish the supplies inside it (like food and water), the pilots need rest too etc.

The director said it can go inside of a plane.

Considering it has to walk to you, all that stuff could be done at a leisurely pace. If you were rich enough, you could just fly from NY to Hawaii or something on occasion and be relatively fine. It would be like half a day worth of traveling, and then you get months of being safe before it catches up. And if you're not rich enough, just try to pass it on to someone who is.

I actually wonder how long it would take to casually walk/swim from NY to Hawaii. I wouldn't be surprised if if was something like 6 months or so.

I don't think we really know how it travels. Yes it seems like it is just slowly walking after people and thats all it does, but each time we see IT it has a different form. So it might not just be walking 40 miles after your car. It might re-spawn in different forms at different places. IT changes into different people depending on who its following. But when nobody's around we don't know if it looks like a person at all. Its true form might be this bloody red cloud from the poster & was also in the swimming pool

Ah crp you're right. Have sex with tons of prostitutes in different countries and save yourself time then do it again if they all die.
