I just finished the first book of the series, Leviathan Wakes. If I hadn't read it, I think I'd be a little lost and bored at times. But, having the books(s) behind me, I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. Looking at other posts, it appears not many have read the book(s) ?? Of course there are differences in characters and minor tweaks in plot but overall, being able to visualize components of the series visually works well here.

The series tell a new story. It is not the same as the books. Therefore the books are a distraction from the show. Fine on their own bit don't intermix.

No , they don't. There are some tweaks but overall the plot is the same. The books are better but that's usually the case.

Have you read all of the books? I've only read the first 4, and I'm wondering if some of this season is based on future books.

Nope. Just through Caliban's War. Another comment states that they are completely different stories but as far as I can tell, Season One is pretty close to the plot and characters in Leviathan Wakes. Well, at least I know watching The Expanse won't give away the plot as it unfolds in the book series. I'm hooked on the books, definitely more than the series. (And that's the way it usually unfolds).

I just started Leviathan Wakes, also watching the series on Prime. Both are very good.
