I was PISSED when i heard about this!!!

reply

It was very disappointing when I heard about this. It is one of SyFy's best shows. I hope they find someone to take it on. Though I understand some of Syfy's decision making here. The reality is they are very reliant on day of viewing, its numbers matter the night it airs and the numbers were not great and the show was very expensive.

WTF? They're really cancelling after the 3rd season? This was one of the best sci-fi shows ever and has the best realistic in terms of space science CGI there is (although it might have been degraded a bit after the team switch).

Also, interesting thing I found:

Looks like maybe Netflix really did get it or is going to but it links to a not found section of the Netflix site.

reply

That is netflix.com/gb ... It's Netflix in the United Kingdom, which is different from Netflix in the US. Actually, I don't know if you are from the US or not, but The Expanse is not on Netflix in the US, it's on Amazon.

I don't know how any of this works, but I do hope someone picks this up.

reply

Yes, I know. I was just thinking maybe it was placeholder and that they may be planning to pick it up. Was just my guess as it is a working Netflix link but just leads to Page Not Found within Netflix. One can only hope.

Update:

Cached version shows Season 1-2 so I wonder why it was taken down. I hope it isn't because they learned it was being cancelled so they decided to just get rid of it even though it is on Amazon as well.

C'mon Amazon Studios or Netflix

reply

If SyFy wants to up the ratings just add a few sharks and two headed crocodiles into the mix.

reply

I thought there as going to be one more season of The Expanse.
No sense in dragging it on forever.

reply

The real story hasn't really started yet.

reply

It was a planned 5 seasons I heard and deservedly so.

reply

There are 7 books and an 8th one coming out in December, not to mention the novellas. It's in no danger of dragging on forever. There is simply more story to tell.

reply

Oh for crying out loud... no wonder the last episode had some accelerated pacing in its final quarter, they probably knew their show was being canned.

Syfy can go frack themselves. I am sick and tired of them basing their shows on antiquated Nielsen ratings, have they no idea that people watch their shows on many more mediums other than cable and satellite?

reply

I also think it's because hard sci-fi is a hard sell to GA. People like pulpy action adventurism sci-fi. Even Battlestar Galactica had low ratings. But shit like SG1 was still a flag ship program

reply

But then why do people like Game of Thrones so much. Youd think that would also be a hard sell to the general public/average viewer, its hugely gorey and violent and has magic and dragons. Yet its the most popular show on tv.
Sure, sci-fi is usually for the more intelligent viewer since it explores possibilites be it technological or sociological and needs you to be openminded/think but still both are kinda niche genre. Or are they?

reply

Good observation, but fantasy and Science Fiction are 2 different animals with different sensibilities.
