Season 2 episode 12 talk here
I haven't seen it yet, but just setting it up for us.
shareThat episode was amazing, probably one of my favorites so far.
The set pieces make Dark Matter look like a cardboard cutout. SyFy has done an excellent job with this production, I'm talking Battlestar 2003 Reimagined Series quality so far.
I feel for the people of Ganymede Station...
Yes every once and a while Sci-fi does something right. This was a great episode, though not as large of a buildup to the finale as season 1. But that's not a bad thing. Wondering how they'll knock it out of the park on episode 13, and I don't watch the previews so no spoilers please.
shareWhatever the case I hope they keep the quality for future shows this Canadian VFX team decides to take on.
shareWooooaaaaa now. I too like The Expanse but to put it in the category of Battlestar Galactica 2003 is blasphemous! That show was near perfect. But again, I like The Expanse a lot too.
shareErrinwright surprised me in this episode. At the beginning, it looked like he's saying his goodbyes before offing himself to save what's left of his reputation. Avasarala reassures him that he's not a bad guy, and Mao lied to him the same way he's lying to her now. But Errinwright obviously doesn't believe her good intentions, because he decides to take matters into his own hands. He poisons the Martian Ambassador and blows up the ship that Mars sent to Ganymede to retrieve the protomolecule weapon. With this act he also stops all negotiations between Mao and UN, I suppose. We'll see how it goes in the next episode.
On Ganymede, Holden is chasing the protomolecule alien but doesn't manage to kill it, much to the delight of Prax who suspects that the alien could be his daughter and wants to talk to it instead of eliminating it. That answers the question whether the alien inside the pod we saw in the last episode was his daughter - it wasn't. Prax thinks she's still alive even though she may not be human anymore.
Holden also says something interesting. The attack on Ganymede wasn't about testing the protomolecule but about covering up its existence with a false flag attack. That's at least how he sees it.
Then we have a refugee crisis on Ganymede, and no news about Venus in this episode, again.
I don't think that alien is his daughter. Did not have enough time to transform into that. Don't you need Days? Remember Julie Mao? Or are these apples and oranges.
shareDefinitely days. How many pods did we see in the last episode? Two, I think... the one with the maturing alien that they destroyed, and another one from which the alien escaped. I don't think there were any more pods... which means that there's a good chance that all those kids are still not in the process of becoming aliens. Prax's daughter may still be human as far as we know (I hope). Poor Prax is expecting the worst though. I hope that soon he'll be pleasantly surprised, he deserves it.
shareHey Apis,
What did you think of the very final scene (last 5 seconds) where the Rocinante or the other ship was speeding away and there was this blue and red thing in or on the ship? I replayed it back but couldn't make out what it was. Could it have been the alien attached or inside the ship?
It seems to me that was something based on the obvious color and based on the scene. I think they wanted us to see something. Did you notice? If you taped it and didn't notice, why don't you check it out and get back with me. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Cheers.spock
Whoa. I DVR'd it and watched it today. This qualifies as one of the best Sci-Fi series episodes I've ever seen in my entire life. I had tears in my eyes and goosebumps. Yes, I do think this is Battlestar Galactica-level of quality, give or take. I would never imagine that SyFy Channel would get this good, with this kind of production values and well-acted tension.
I read the books, loved them, and this is probably the best adaptation of a Sci-Fi book series I've ever seen. I've loved this series from the start (what an incredibly accurate rendition of the books!) and S2 ep 12 "The Monster and the Rocket" was simply the best.
Phenomenal.
I look forward to the season finale this coming Wednesday.
Welcome to our discussion board. Glad you also like this show. You are the second person to compare this to BSG, so maybe it is that good. BSG is in my top 5 all time tv series, so The Expanse has a ways to go to reach that level, but it is climbing.
shareThanks for welcoming me, Mr.Spock.
I think the comparison is a bit tough because BSG was its own creation (books if I'm not mistaken came later) and this one is a book adaptation. So they aren't exactly the same species. I guess one could say that BSG was the best original Sci-Fi TV series, and this one is the best book adaptation Sci-Fi TV series.
Anyway, this idea of "the best" is silly, I'll confess. Often I get into this "the best" label when I'm currently watching a show and later start to have second thoughts.
There is another great current show loosely based on a sci-fi book (but a short one, not a series - the book, I mean, is a standalone novel, and short; the show is a series greatly expanding upon the book material): The Man in the High Castle. Much less technology, barely Sci-Fi rather than political/historical fiction, but plot and acting are arguably just as good.
The Man in the High Castle. Hmmm I will have to check it out. You and I seem to have similar interests. I guess I will have to find where it is playing. Thanks for the heads up.
shareIt's as you must know based on Philip K. Dick novel of the same title and it is on Amazon video, original production by Amazon, two seasons of ten episodes each have been released. It's outstanding.
shareWith a notable exception of the Belter politics (which are actually more interesting than in the books) every time the writers depart from the "cannon" I stop understanding the characters.
shareI don't really remember all the details of the books which I read a good while ago, but it all feels very satisfactory to me, regarding the bigger picture. This series is pretty much how I imagined this story to be, when I read the books. Even the visuals are close to what I had in mind in my own imagination while reading the books - this is one of the reasons, admittedly personal, why I think it is a great book adaptation.
