Fantastic show!

This show deserves a LOT more viewers. Just a great story, production and execution. With an even better second season going on now, I'm thinking this could be the very best real sci-fi tv-series ever made.

I love to death shows like Star Trek TNG, Firefly and Farscape. But where TNG and Farscape is more spaceopera and with now outdated effects, and Firefly was more like space-cowboys and cut short, The Expanse seems complete with very few minor flaws dwarfed by the strengths.

Would recommend this even to non sci-fi nerds as it has just great casting, acting, sets and story that deserves and have the potential to reach a much wider audience.

It's a pretty good show, especially the last quarter of the first season, and so far this entire season,--where things start to really pick up, my only qualm is the episodes feel so short. In the days of 50-60 minute Game of Thrones episodes, settling for 41 minutes per episode sucks. That would be fine with a 20-24 episode season, but only 10 episodes? Yikes.

This is where Syfy's reimagined Battlestar Galactica is still tops, combining lengthy episodes with lengthy seasons, while still having fantastic special effects.

Well, it's really good special effects and sets, so it's probably very expensive for a niche channel like SyFY to produce. GoT must have x10 the budget.
Would love for it to be a bit longer too, but very happy with what we get anyway. Can't wait till the series is finished so I can binge watch it all :)

Agreed, The Expanse has amazing special effects, and I'm glad I found this show too!

The Expanse is one of my favorite shows as well. I've been avoiding coming to this board cause I haven't watched the last episode (afraid of spoilers), but I'll watch today and come back to comment.

reply

Yeah, will watch the last episode tonight too. So nice to have such a great sci-fi series to look forward to new episodes of these days!

Hello,
I'm thinking about watching this show, but I'd like to know what kind of philsosophy it has, meaning is this a cynical everyone-is-frakked-up-and-the-world-will-go-to-hell kind of show or more like things-are-complicated-but everyone-tries-their-best or something like that (BSG, even though dark at times, falls into the latter category because people grow and overcome, which makes it more empowering than depressing imo). I'm fed up with cynical worldviews.

One of the main characters (Miller, the cop) starts out as cynical, but as the show progresses he becomes less and less cynical, even though he occasionally relapses back into a cynical mode.

Other characters are not cynical, except maybe one or two United Nations officials. So, you don't need to worry about that. The show is great.

Sounds good, thank you.

reply

not really -- but i can see what you mean.

good thoughts!

Nice that you come here and help bring activity to the board. Maybe it really is good to have trolls around in the beginning to create more traffic, as one suggested on the general board.

what are you talking about?

we happen to disagree and you call me a "troll"?

i'm trying to learn how to edit and you're attacking me?

you can't give a bloke a break can you?

mahrez99, you just keep on with the personal attacks, right?

but why?

reply

Yes, I love the show too, but I don't think the show has caught on for THAT many people like you and I. This show may not be easy to attract new viewers too since it is pretty complex.
