Autotune
What is with the blatant and over use of autotune on thia show?
shareThey are simply mimicking real life music industry today. Where everyone minus Adele overuses auto tune. You know the likes of justin bieber, one direction, selena Gomez they can't actually sing well. They are average singer who all rely on auto tune to make them sound good. Just like pretty much every musician in this day and age does. Empire is trying to realistically portray the music industry today if they didn't use much auto tune then their depiction of the music industry would be an unrealistic lie. It's as simple as that. If you want the show to be grounded in reality than you have to accept that overuse of auto tune is necessary as it is sadly the dominate force of the music industry and has been for years with very few exceptions.
shareyeah, and most artists today use autotune completely wrong
it's meant to be a barely noticable adjustment to the singer's voice to get a note here and there on pitch
today's artists tweak it and use it for entire songs, thus that 'warbly' effect, which, while slightly experimental, was not the intended use of autotune, was already overused by CHER, and is often only used to cover an artist's inability to sing on-pitch for an entire song :-P
*Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!*
Yes. I think Tory Lanez is a perfect example of this. The man sounds like a robot from outerspace because he downright overuses it. That song he remade "Everyone falls in love" oozes with auto tune, but if you listen to the original version of the song, the man who sings the hook sounds more raw and his voice does not really need technical support. The one thing I really want to know is don't these artists worry about live performances? Or can they use auto tune during a live show also?
Oh, and I agree with the show.....the music sucks. It even sounds a little worst than music in our universe.

I have never heard that much autotune in R&B or Rap. And some of the artists you listed, have pretty decent voices and don't overuse autotune.
shareAutotune Studio trickery or wizardry? Ella Fitzgerald didn't need it. That woman worked hard, sometimes 2 gigs in one night in two different countries! Wild! I listen to all my music, whether it be analog or digital through a funky old stereo with lots of distortion when I crank it. I identified with the producer in the show when he suggested low level distortion in the bass, on Hakeem's track so he wouldnt sound like a girl. That was humourous. It is not just about chords and beats, it ultimately about "sound" and that can be easier felt than explained.
