Cookie's reaction to Jamal's panic attack
Wow! Cookie is REALLY something else! Smacking Jamal while he was having a panic attack. Smh.
And of course Lucious's reaction wasn't any better.

I really start to hate her. How can you be so quick with the slapping? Is she stupid? He needs help and she starts smacking him, I really want to see someone slap her for once. And it's not just Jamal, she just can't keep her hands to herself.
share@am: I like her, but when she acts like that it gets me so upset.

I liked her in the first season, while she was trying to finde her place/purpose. But as soon as she realized she can do whatever she wants, she just became nasty and violent. Thinking she can threaten, hit and insulkt whenever she wants. In the first season you could see the mother, now you can only see the business devil wearing Prada.
I agree with most of what you said except about Jamal. I mean seriously he needs to be tough and just get over it come on. He was shot and nearly died that's something hugely traumatic. He needs to process it and deal with it in order to move on. Ignoring it and just getting over it and being tough is not a solution. Seriously what kind of advice is that?
Should Andre just get over the fact that his wife was killed. If according to your view Jamal should just get over his trauma then the same should apply to everyone including cookie. She needs to get over all her issues and resentments about her poor treatment. It was hard for but in your view trauma means nothing so she should just be tough and get over it. Cookie is not the only one who suffered greatly from family or tragedy though some fans like to pretend she is the only one who has a right to be angry.
Andre within the space of a few months has lost his unborn child and his wife, he has had to cope with mental illness and poor treatment from luscious his whole life. Even cookie has had her moments of treating him poorly. Then Jamal who has been beaten down and abused his whole life by luscious just for being gay. Sadly this is not over as we saw from luscious horrible rant about hoping Jamal dies of aids which incidentally Jamal just apparently "got over", despite that sort of thing being unforgivable to me. His boyfriend cheated on him with creepy artist and then he was shot and almost killed by the girl that he considered a friend. Then we have hakeem who was kidnapped by cookies boyfriend and his minions, who was about to get married only to have his wedding gate crashed by luscious "drug gang" this leading to laurel leaving him at the altar. On top of this his dad married his baby's mother and luscious is now taking custody of hakeems child until he decides that hakeem is ready to be a father.
Cookie is not the only one who has suffered. Yes she has suffered a lot and obviously being older she may have suffered more than her children depending on you're point of view but that does not mean that the others suffering should be ignored or downplayed or that they should just get over it. The world doesn't work that way.
As for Jamal's breakdown reflecting poorly on business that's highly irrelevant or should be to cookie. Her son went through something traumatic he needs the care of his mother not the harsh, violent and abusive all business cookie who doesn't seem to give a damn about her children anymore. Not everything is about the business or the family image some things are personal and need to be dealt with in a personal way. Now Jamal may be at fault for wanting to sing when he clearly was not in the mental state to do so but denial can play a huge part in trauma. It also doesn't help that cookie is pressuring Jamal to get back in the studio and make more music and perform again so soon. He obviously isn't ready for that yet he needs proper help so cookie pushing is not helping and really her pushing him is leading to the bad business so she has no one to blame but herself in this instance. If someones not ready for something them don't force them its as simple as that. It seems these days that all cookie cares about with regards to Jamal is using his star status to further her business ambitions for empire and luscious is no different. They both need to start acting like parents again and start talking care of their children rather than thing about what their children and their talent can do for themselves.
@am: Yea I see your point.
shareI think Cookie is supposed to be reactionary like that. Not saying that's a good quality to have, but she was just released from prison a year or two ago after 17 years, so we can't expect her to be mother of the year so soon. But if we remember last season, she slipped up and called Andre stupid. She quickly apologized, but I think that's just a normal flaw of her character.
shareIt's Cookie. That's her character. I would been surprised if she had NOT slapped him.
Actors are useless without the power of a good writer's imagination
@mus: Yea, I see your point.
shareThe character was written and performed over the top.... And the audience ate it up. Her sass is the main crux of the character. There's not much more to her. The problem is, there is nowhere to go from there. You have to ratchet it up, and be even more outrageous than before to get the same effect. so by now, this character is cartoonish. Imagine what she'll be doing by the end of the season.
shareMaybe next she'll be carrying a broom around everywhere she goes so she can whack Hakeem with it any chance she can get.
shareThere are peopl;e in real life like her and they don't change or have any depth wither. She's popular because she's entertaining to a lot of people. But how would someone like her act? She's not a mental health care professional, she's a hood rat.
shareI love Cookie, but I didn't like her slapping Jamal while he was having his panic attack, either. However, I couldn't get too mad; Cookie doesn't really know much when it comes to mental issues (remember when she learned Andre had bipolar disorder, and she thought it was something that Rhonda did to him), and I guess she figured slapping him would bring him back. Unfortunately, that's not how getting over panic attacks works.
Love,
Notzi
@ty: Her character is fine. I just hate seeing her act so mean and selfish towards her kids and their issues.
shareI agree, but with Cookie's character (and lack of understanding of mental illnesses/disorders) I'm not surprised. To be fair, though, she changed her response the next time, when Jamal had a panic attack at The Summit. And her conversation with Andre was so much more compassionate/understanding than when she first learned he has bipolar disorder. So, she is learning.
