Cookie and Lucious would not be high school students in 1989. That's when JAF was released. Hakeem was like 19/20 in S1 which means he was born in 1995 or 1996. Andre was born in the damn '80s.

This has already been discussed and it's absolutely true. People keep saying Andre is about early 30's when he has to be between 26 or 27. The flashbacks shows young Cookie and Lucious dressing more like circa 1984-86 but like you mentioned "Just A Friend" came out in 1989. Kind of like something from the movie "The Wood."
My guess has to be that Andre was born late 1989 or early 1990, Jamal was born probably 1991, and Hakeem was born around 1996. Cookie ended up going to jail in 1998 seeing how she spent 17 years in prison and and the show started in 2015.

You just contradicted yourself. The key was the song Lucious and Cookie liked and the flashback. That's the song that made her fall for Lucious and it came out in 1989. They won't be singing the song that came out in 1989 in 1984/85. Lol

Tonight's flashback when they showed lucious and his boys beat down cookies boyfriend, that was mid 80s. After lucious stopped rapping they played 'my Adidas' Run DMC 85
sharea girl at the warehouse party can be seen holding a 1985-86 original Motorola brick phone (with the huge battery). The slimmer battery came out around 87-88. I agree that the timeline is all screwed up. More than anything - if this is Philadelphia mid - late 80's why isn't a single person smoking? People of all races smoked at warehouse parties in the late 80's. Usually a huge cloud of smoke could be seen at any party function.

I agree with you, but I think we went over this in huge detail in season 1. It's a little weirder that we're looking at 15-16 year old Cookie, and 17 year old or so Lucious in this later context. I can't remember what BDP song was playing in the latest episode now, what year did that come out? But they're now pretty obviously playing everyone 4 or 5 years younger than their real ages.
