Typical, Bland, OK

The best thing about this movie is the setup. Then it flutters around with standard tropes with the occasional "subversion of expectations" that don't impact the eventual by-the-numbers ending. It is OK for escaping the heat on a Saturday afternoon but it is not great in any way. The acting is good but not award worthy. Its director, Dean Devlin, is behind such anti-art as Godzilla 98 and the barely above average Independence Day.
5.5/10
Didn't regret seeing it. That's about the gist of my review.

I went out to take a pee at the ending climax, since we already knew what would happen.

Is it somehow similar to The Backwoods with Gary Oldman?

I agree the movie was pretty good but the ending seemed a little anti climatic. I was expecting a big reveal at the end but wasn't disapointed. The climax scale seemed to be a little reversed were most of the tension was during the first 2 acts and the resolution of the film was some what calming. It felt like No country for old men a little bit.

Yeah, it was a fairly underwhelming film. Tennant's had much better scripts to work with.
Did anyone else find the musical score to be unbearably loud and over the top in some places?

Supposedly so powerful, cautious and rich villain became dumb all of a sudden. Disappointed ending. I'd have preferred the ending if he was never caught and killed both of them

"The best thing about this movie is the setup."

I agree completely and just posted this in another thread. It was almost like it was directed and written by two different people. My guess is it started out (at least as an idea) as a short because the first twenty minutes were really thrilling before it slumped down into a 90s straight to video movie.

5.5 is very fair. Decent.

Totally agree with your review. I was disappointed. David Tennant is a great actor, and can be very sinister, but not in this film unfortunately.

It was like a TV movie with a thin plot and cheesy acting.

I liked it until about half way but then it just fell apart instead of getting tense.
