Lori's never ending manipulation

I have to say, this season has been very draggy. First off I didn't like the whole, Lori being their biological mother situation, (still hoping there was a mix up in there somewhere and perhaps her eggs didn't take and Elizabeth's fertilized instead...far fetch I know) but Lori is all over the place. I'm sorry, she set that entire suicide thing up just to get carter to the hospital. I'm tired of this lady and her lies. I know they are not going to make her completely disappear but any one else agree? How can they not see through her manipulation. Just when I thought she was making amends and truly sorry, she turns around and shows her true colors. I don't think she's truly that crazy!

I think she is both. Mentally ill but also manipulative. What she told the nurse after Carter left the room in the latest episode, seems like someone who is mentally ill to me. Lori's latest example of manipulation, having Madison show up to do her biding is more proof of how manipulative she is.

Frankly I dont understand why so many posters are against Lori being the egg donor. I like how it not only connects Carter to Lori as more than just the lunatic that kidnapped her, but it has opened up story lines for Taylor having to deal with being biologically related to Lori as well.

I hate the subplot about Taylor's reaction to Lori being their bio mom. Also, I hate Madison and her lezzie affair with Bird. For that matter, Bird's "poverty" storyline is horrendously boring.

There wouldn't be a situation where Lori's eggs didn't get fertilized, they would have mixed Lori's eggs with David's sperm and implanted fertilized embryos after the cells started dividing.

reply

I think what the OP meant is that Elizabeth's own egg came out and got fertilized during, uh, intimacy. So Lori's eggs could've failed and Elizabeth's own egg came out, got fertilized, and stuck around.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a DNA test done and it turns out that Taylor is Elizabeth's biological child and that Carter really is Lori's. But I know that's entering 'Soap Opera' territory and that's probably a card they'd pull out as a last desperate attempt to bring ratings up.

reply

I think that it would be better if the DNA test was reversed. Taylor is Lori's biological child and Carter was Elizabeth's. Taylor seems a lot more likely to have some kind of mental illness or depression based on her actions lately. Lori being Taylor's mother could explain that.

I really feel like they decided to change the story between season one and two. In season one, they said that David and Elizabeth had a shotgun wedding due to her being pregnant. The actress who plays Lori said that she cried when she read Lori's story. The producers said that the storyline was going to be one that was never done before. None of what is currently going on fits with those situations. Sadly, season two isn't nearly as good as season one.

I dont really care if they have changed the back story. Chances are if the "twist" of why Carter was kidnapped was really amazing than the new showrunner would have kept the twist instead of going with Lori being the egg donor. Also the problems with season 2 have nothing to do with Lori and the kidnapping. The problems are almost entirely related to Crash, Bird's family story line, Gabe's relationship with the guidance counselor. Those story lines are not interesting. When the focus stays on Carter, Taylor, Grant, Max (and he was stuck in the lame Crash drug dealing uncle story line) and the parents, the show works for the most part.

I just have one question, if Carter and Taylor are biologically Lori's, then how did the police department determine Carter was Elizabeth's with her earlobes or whatever? Wouldn't she have Lori's instead?

reply

It was Carter's fingerprints that matched. Elizabeth is a cop so obviously she had her children fingerprinted at some point in time before Carter was kidnapped. When Carter got in trouble and was fingerprinted, it brought up a match and that's how they found her.

reply

Yeah, I think she realized that begging Carter was just pushing her away, so she decided to try the opposite. And the doctor didn't even see through it, so either he's not that good, or she's scary manipulative. Or it might be both. I'm leaning towards that one. I'm surprised that after finding out that Madison confessed Lori sent her to Carter that she didn't realize the "suicide attempt" was just a ploy.
