Whether you like it or not, this show is targeted towards teenagers and it's on MTV. What's MTV without teens doing stuff that it's illegal. If you want shows with a positive impact you can always watch Nick Jr and besides teens like it and it gets good ratings.
Overall I still like the show.
It's definitely for teens, the lead character and her life is what all teens think they want their life to be. But reality is that its not believable and I cannot get past the Lori story line, even the target audience knows that story line is a joke. That is the problem it started as one thing and they changed it to a teen soap without properly wrapping the bad story lines they had. And the ratings are bad - its lost over 60% of its initial season 1 audience.
