I started watching this show because of Alex Saxon as Max. I watched him in The Fosters as Wyatt and was disappointed when he left. I was glad to discover he was in Finding Carter and I could still see Alex Saxon and his beautiful hair. Now I also really like Grant, but find all the other characters annoying. If Max ever left the show I would probably stop watching.
I started watching because the previews for the show intrigued me. It seemed like an interesting concept even though I am much older than the target audience.
The first season was awesome. It got worse from there.
I'll keep watching because I can't quite shows (just a personality thing), but I am really not enjoying it much.
Same with me! First season was intriguing...now it just plods along with ridiculous plot lines. So unrealistic but I keep watching. Once I start a series I can't stop like the other responder. I read her words and thought, "oh, I'm not the only one!" I seriously like the actress who plays Carter but I am wanting to slap the character for the ways she is treating her mother! Can't wait to see her in something else. The boy who plays Max too.
Max and Taylor are the only thing keeping this boat afloat at this point. The Laurie storyline is beyond ridiculous. She tried to kill herself to manipulate the girl she kidnapped into still loving her. And now she's the normal parent? Whatever!
So definitely Max and Taylor.
*** Truth be told, I had to see you one more time, even if it was from a distance.
I honestly don't know. I startes watching when I couldn't sleep one night and there was a marathon and it seemed alright. Not particularly good but I've seen worse.
Grant is pretty funny I definitely think his character has gotten better over time.
I mainly watch because it's vaguely interesting, I don't care so much about plot holes because I have a bad memory and most of the time I forget the details.
I like looking at fashion, and I enjoy being exposed to lots of random actors and seeing them cross over on other TV shows. I also have seen Max in The Fosters but think his character in Finding Carter is better. I saw Carter in Reign too.
This is a fresh story for me. I can't imagine what it's like to have a child kidnapped, raised by another, then returned thirteen years later. In police procedurals, the show ends when the child is returned to its family. This one shows:
• What kinds of adjustments have to be made on all sides • The psychological and social considerations of all affected • The what ifs: Like in this story, what if the child loves her abductor -- how do you keep that child away from her without damaging the child more. • The kidnapped child grew up with different values than her family. The differences between Carter and Taylor are striking even though they're twins. And I'm not referring to their physical appearance. • How because one child was taken, the other two suffered even though they were too young to realize what happened. They were put into near isolation: Strict boundaries, curfews and tethered. Little to no social life hence socially awkward teens.
Because I can't relate, it's hard to empathize. What makes empathy even more difficult, is I don't like any of the adults; they're more or as screwed up as the teenagers. It's why the teens are so messed up. Carter has befriended a pack of strays -- like herself. None of them have a positive parental influence. And this show lets me see that side, something, hopefully, I'll never personally experience.
Great post. This is exactly how I feel. We never have shows that really dive into the aftermath of it all. Or, I've never paid any attention to others shows that have done this.
Believe it or not, I enjoy watching the dynamic of Carter and her two mothers. She loves them both and gets punished for it. How do you tell your mother who carried you, that the mother who kidnapped you is someone you love and visa versa? How do you get them to understand that you want both into your life without hurting each mother.
This show is beyond bonkers and I just roll with the ridiculousness of it all.
I know! Even though intellectually Carter knows everything about Lori is all wrong, but for 13 years, practically all her life, Lori was her nurterer, her comforter, her friend.
Though I believe if David and Elizabeth had their acts together, it wouldn't have been as easy for Carter to turn back to Lori. All the lies and infidelities were stomach churning.
