HBO is Trash. This show was brilliant.

Vinyl in my opinion, having checked out every over hyped show HBO releases, was the best program they've had since the era of The Wire and The Sopranos. It is the only show that lived up to the quality of direction, writing and cinematic quality. I am in the camp that believes Game of Thrones is crap, and completely overrated. To me it is overdramatized Lord of the Rings softcore porn. Not my thing. I'm pretty upset about this cancelation. I will probably cancel my HBO account now.

Gonna miss it.

It's sad they pulled the plug this way. Although I think the show got off to a shaky start after an especially ridiculous first episode, the show just got better as it went along, and had really hit it's stride by the end of the season. There are so many things they could have done with this story, and this excellent cast of actors playing all of the roles. Such a waste that they pulled the plug without giving it....at least....a second season to see if it could capture it audience.

Boardwalk Empire was brilliant. But yeah losing this show hurts. But in reality, when Terence Winter parted ways, I was pretty much done with the show.

HBO is not exactly "peaking" right now. Like I said in another post I've never seen HBO have such a weak list of shows. I'm not a GoT fan, either. So, right now I guess I'll watch "Ballers" but I don't even know if "The Leftovers" is returning. I guess HBO has given us such great shows for so long when it hits a slump we are a little shocked. At least I am. "Girls" must get great ratings for it to be renewed every season...

Take away Game of Thrones and I can only name a few shows.

reply

Outside of Game of Thrones HBO's not doing so hot right now, and are having trouble competing with online streaming fare like Netflix which gives whole seasons' worth of programing for people to marathon on while HBO and other network are stuck to give a new episode per week.

reply

I've had HBO since I was a kid and this is the lowest I've seen it. Which by most standards is still good, but by the standards they've set for themselves not so much. Showtime, to be fair, isn't doing that great either with their new big show "Billions" not living up to expectations and widely panned by critics. Like you said the competition has def. stepped their game up.

I hope they don't cancel John Oliver's show next. Maybe they'll "reboot" an old show.

reply

Billions was a terrible disappointment. I didn't even finish the season. Game of Thrones? Never seen it and don't want to. And you're right....the best new series are showing up on Netflix, and Amazon Prime is really picking up steam, as well.

reply

This show was great! I bought it on Blu-Ray and I can't understand they are letting it go! Bring back its original showrunner and keep it forward with it. What a pity!

Besides Game Of Thrones, I can't see any quality show on HBO right now. Maybe Westworld? I guess Girls, Silicon Valley, etc. are cheap, but they are not as good as Vinyl.

Regarding other cable networks, Showtime's Billions is one of the worse new shows of the year. I can't seen Netflix bringing anything fresh and great either lately.

Sad, I think Vinyl was one of the best chances to get something really good.

reply

Considering that the movie Westworld was not all that great in the first place, I gotta say I'm not really excited about the prospect of the series.

Leftovers is returning for a final season of 8 episodes

reply

Well that's god news, thanks for clarifying that...I wasn't sure what was happening...and that says something about HBO right now...I try to keep up with what's going on but with HBO seemingly cancelling shows left and right I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised if they just left us hanging with The Leftovers...after watching it for 2 seasons.

I barely watched GoT, I tried watching Togetherness but just couldn't get into it despite it being about people around my age (guess that shows nobody gives a cr@p lol) but I thought they've cancelled a few shows now they should've kept and keep renewing shows that most people I know don't care for, with Game of Thrones being the exception. I like Silicon Valley but if I remember correctly it was not a sure thing it was coming back for its second season.

I just find their choices in keeping vs. cancelling hard to figure out. It's like the stock market...

reply

I do like Ballers actually. That show did surprised me first season. Totally agree on your points though.

reply

This was my favorite new show, I haven't been this disappointing about a series getting cancelled in forever. And I'm assuming with the budget and poor ratings that it's pretty unlikely that it'll get picked up by another network. I didn't really see this advertised though, I didn't even know it was done shooting until the first season was already over and I had been looking forward to it ever since it was announced.

reply

It wasn't my favourite HBO series, but no need to cancel it I agree.

You're giving this show way too much undeserved credit.
