HBO drives me nuts with the whole changing their minds bullsh*t.

Shows get cancelled, I get that but what bugs me is the fact that HBO gets people excited for a new season after they renew it then decide later to cancel it. They did this with The Brink as well. It just leaves a bad taste. If they chose to just cancel it right out then it would be understandable but this changing their mind *beep* is bad form. I feel like I can't trust a show on HBO till a new episode airs at this point.

Me too..like I just said, I never know what to expect anymore. IMHO they've made some strange choices...Id have kept quite a few shows they axed. Somehow Girls returns every year...must get amazing ratings.

reply

I wish they'd at least told the showrunner that there might not be a season two, so they could have written a suitable end (albeit open, in case of an S2.)
Now we've invested ten hours in a story that goes nowhere...

- A point in every direction is the same as no point at all.

Just wanted to chime in that I agree.

I haven't seen the show, but this is the second time I'm hearing of HBO first renewing a show then, months later, 'changing their minds' and cancelling it anyway.

What crap.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

They've done it a number of times - "The Brink", "Luck", "Tell Me You Love Me". They actually bailed on "8 Miles of Bad Road" after filming 5 or 6 episodes.

While it's awesome that "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is coming back after 5 years, they resurrected "The Comeback" after an even longer period, and that show wasn't particularly good the first season.

reply

Luck was axed because of the horse deaths. In the middle of the first season actually. Otherwise it may have had a sevond season.

reply

I was way confused there for a second...till it hit me bout the horses dying. Boy, hadn't thought about that show in forever. What big names were attached to that show?

Such high hopes for that show that year...literally...a tragedy

reply

One big name attached to that show was Dustin Hoffman. I think HBO used the horses dying thing as a pretext to opt out of that show - probably yet again because of low ratings.

reply

Had a big budget, too...

Perhaps once GoT is gone...we are kinda seeing the end of big budget shows on HBO and other cable networks, perhaps? They just don't want to take the risk I guess. If you look at almost all the new and returning shows coming out soon they're all relatively small(ear) budget shows.

And I haven't heard a peep about a True Detective Season 3. Can't blame them after season two...

reply

Yup...I wasted a whole season for a story that goes nowhere...at the "Hello Ladies" and "Looking" are getting a movie ending to wrap it up...better than nothing. And I liked "Hello Ladies" too, that's another one...geez..

reply

It's true. They should be more hesitant to announce renewals, but then stick by their word once they do.
