Why All The Donny Osmond Hate?

OK I only saw episode 1 so far and couldn't help wondering why all the insults about (of all people) Donny Osmond? Was it supposed to be some sort of joke? Donny was a joke even back then like David Cassidy, no one took him seriously. Plus he was only around 15 at the time and they're making him sound like he's some powerful force in the music biz.

I was in elementary school back then. I remember him being the BIG teen idol for about 1 year with the girls. I remember the boys hating him. After that, the Osmonds slowly faded....
