Scorsese should be blamed for Vinyl

I find it interesting that HBO was quick to ax Terence Winter from the show, but no one thought to pin the blame on Scorsese's irresponsible spending on that bloated two hour pilot episode. Who spends over 30 million on a TV production? I don't think even Game of Thrones gets that costly.

Prior to Vinyl, Winter delivered 10 solid seasons of gangster drama if you combine both his Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire work. And HBO let him go just like that. Meanwhile, Scorsese gets a pass for being Scorsese.

And I'm not saying Winter's blameless. He's written below-average material before, and Vinyl had its share of pedestrian episodes. But it still seems wrong to torch the lesser known producer.

None of us know the back room story of what happened. Chances are that there is more to the reality of the situation than you have conjectured.

Game of Thrones actually did spend 30 million dollars on an episode. Apparently season 6 was an average of 10 million an episode.

reply

Sure that logic works.

BUT that's mainly because Vinyl only existed because Scorsese wanted to do it.

There. It's on the Internet. Thus it's official

Rich Cohen is a co writer, one of the biggest hacks around.

Not sure who he is related to or whose dick he suck but that guy is *beep* hopeless.

I can't say who can take the blame, but I can say "Vinyl" feels like all too many of Scorsese's recent crime films, which I find extremely tedious.

If you're going to do a show involving loads of classic rock, period costumes and hair & make-up, it's going to cost a lot of bread.
Not really Scorsese's fault.

Jagger s/b blamed. He schnookered Marty and HBO (for millions) so his talentless son could have a career.

No! That's not true at all, Elvis takes 50% of everything I earn!
