What irritates me is when a preview reveals too much info and you feel you have watched every needed scene so you have no need to watch the movie.
Why the studio's hire someone outside of the director to oversee the making of the marketing preview is beyond me.
I have read the script, and in the script, that character died halfway through the movie. I'm assuming you're talking about Thomas Jane's character, right?
They haven't shown much of the main ghost/antagonist though, even in these new stills.

The child's good dreams and nightmares are manifested into existence in the real world - so that is what you are seeing in the pictures. You don't know what is real or what is part of his dream, even when he is screaming "I'm awake!", because he could still be asleep and IN the dream thinking he is awake. It is something you have to see through the end to know what parts are real or manifestations of his dreams.
