best psychological horror director?

I've seen Absentia and liked it, and I just saw Oculous and loved it. Can't wait for this.

yubhobbityub, glad to see someone else is here! I also really enjoyed Absentia, so much so, I had to see Oculus, and very much enjoyed that film as well. Another horror flick from the same Writer/Director team? Yes, please. And have you noticed a lot of the talent involved in the first film are also involved in the other two? Awesome.

He's definitely one to watch. Some of the best film editing I've ever seen.

Adrian Lynne's "Jacob's Ladder" has to be in the top 5 psych horrors of all time.

reply

You got to be kidding me. Absentia was horrible. Oculus was weak. But I must admit this looks fairly good. Best psych horror director though???? Not even in top ten to date. Ever heard of Alfred Hitchcock, or Brian DePalma, or David Cronenberg, or Kubrick?

Right now, in 2015... again, in 2015, MIKE FLANAGAN IS THE BEST PSYCHOLOGICAL DIRECTOR, in my opinion. Most of the dudes in your list are dead! We're talking about modern horror.

reply

To be fair only half are dead, and I left out one guy who share's your first name that may be stretching a bit to call a psychological horror filmmaker, but I think Pan's Labyrinth fits the bill. I think David Lynch may fit on my list too. I would throw Jim Mickle above Flanagan if you want a great up and coming filmmaker. And honestly if you want great psychological horror today look to Latino filmmakers, The Body (El Cuerpo), The Hidden Face (terrific film. Both erotic and suspensful.), The Uninvited Guest, Julia's Eyes. . Psychological horror is a genre I am a fan of, just not feeling Flanagan yet, but this film does look good and I am looking forward to it

Thanks, I'll check them out
