A lot of people in this thread seem to be misinformed on how this process goes. Filmmakers, especially indie film makers, send copies of their film ("screeners") to as many critics as they can to be reviewed. Often times, this leads to entire offices (per critic) of people getting to see the film. Not to mention films such as this often spend a year (or even several years) being shown at film festivals and the like (the festival circuit, as its called). This of course leads to entire audiences of hundreds of people seeing the film. Then, there are the copies that get leaked online (often from the office of a film critic that received a copy, or someone who bootlegged a film festival copy, etc) and uploaded to file sharing sites like gorillavid, vodlocker etc as well as streaming link websites like primewire.

This seems a little self-explanatory. You didn't really think that a film goes unseen until its official theatrical release did you? That literally never happens.
