PG-13?
I wanted to be rated R :(
shareI don't think (judging off the trailer) that it needs an R to be a good movie. It looks like a dark fantasy supernatural movie that wouldn't benefit from buckets of gore.
Give it a chance! (:
And how exactly would that have made it any better?
shareHorror movies directed by Mike Flanagan:
Absentia: Rated R, Great movie
Oculus: Rated R, Awesome film
Before I Wake: Rated PG-13 It looks good but could it be as scary as Absentia and Oculus?
I made this thread before watching the trailer, and now that I've seen it, it looks like a good movie, but I'm concerned about the scares, most of the PG-13 horror movies suck.
I think it depends on the director, and in this case, Before I Wake seems to be in very capable hands. Oculus and Absentia are very tame for horror films (i.e. gore, sex, profanity), and they mostly got an R rating for their extremely dark and gothic tones. This one looks doesn't look as dark or depressing as his other works, so that might have been why it got a PG-13 rating. Also, Drag Me to Hell was rated PG-13, and that was in the hands of the master. It turned out to be amazing. There's also Insidious, which had James Wan who just came off of Saw and Dead Silence, both very grisly films. Of course there's a chance that this one could flop, but it seems doubtful considering his resume.
shareYeah, I loved Drag Me To Hell and Inisidous, hopefully this will be good :)
shareThey want junior high school kids to fork over the cash and see it thus insure it makes more money. Now that Flanagan has proven to be a successful storyteller they are giving him more commercial opportunity's so they can make more money. They told him make it PG-13 so the 13 year olds can buy a ticket also, but keep it creepy.
shareBut the highest grossing horror movies are R rated. Why would it being PG13 have it make more cash?
