Don't waste your time.. (SPOILERS)

What really annoys me about bad films, is when they start well, drag you in and then fail at the last hurdle.

The film is very interesting at the beginning only to end in the most ridiculous, nonsensical way.

I felt like I was just watching a children's show at the end. Just pathetic, the monster was just a misunderstood Cody monster?? Okay.. If you say so, just show that toy butterfly and the monster will turn back to Cody  What a massive gamble with your life, when you have no idea what will happen. Don't take video evidence or bring in professionals to document it.

The monster conveniently stopped eating people at the end, just cocooned them?? WTF?

No consistency in this film. So do yourselves a favor and stay away, don't waste your time like I did.

Great example of how different people can have a completely different take on essentially the same experience. I felt the opening of the movie to be a bit dull; the neon bright butterflies, the christmas trees, it was all a little too perfect and happy for me... THAT was a tad too kiddy at some point.

It wasn't until the darker side of the dream manifestation occured that I got into it. And I found the ending to be perfect.

Seems like you didn't get it, sorry to say.

Found the film boring. It had the potential to be a good film, they just seemed to run out of ideas.

Actually that was Cody who cocooned them, to protect them from the monster. We know that, because it's implied when Jessie quotes the kid, about the cocoon serving to protect butterflies until they have grown up. But I agree the film was somewhat dumb by the end.

Okay so... why didn't Cody "cocooned" the father from the monster -who was essentially himself- instead of plot-wise-conveniently gobbling him?

What a contrived, PG-13 mess.

I don’t know. Maybe it was just bad writing. Maybe the writer just couldn’t pass his unwillingness to “kill” or make disappear so many innocent people, and so came up with that solution (to cocoon the people, I mean). And in the end wasn’t aware or willing to fix the problems that “solution” cause to the other parts of the story.

Or maybe the kid didn’t learn until that moment in the end, that he could do that. Up to that moment, his solution to fight the monster, was always trying to not sleep. That’s where he put his hopes and effort to fight the monster. But when they forced him to sleep, and unable to wake up, he was forced to try and find some other way to fight the monster. But that just me imagining a solution. I’m sure someone else could find another valid explanation.
