WOW! did not expect this! Crazy movie! This girl had borderline personality disorder anyone else agree? My girlfreind watched it with my and identified with the character so much and shes borderline... (*beep* me, I know)
Minnie was not borderline. This movie was based on a graphic novel by Phoebe Glockner who based it on her experiences as teen growing up in San Francisco of the 70's. How sad it is that by today's rigid and suppressive moral standards for females there is no ability in some viewers to relate or identify with Minnie. Her highs and lows are due to hormones that are raging through her system and through the systems of all teens. Those hormones are hugely influential in Minnie's behavior. The difference is that in the 70's in San San Francico ,particularly ,and in Minnie's type of home ,specifically, Minnie had the freedom to express those emotions and explore her sexuality without anyone judging her. Today's teens are so severely oppressed that they have taken to suicide, mental and emotional breakdowns, extreme cruelty and even murder to express emotions that have been warped by a set of impossible standards that leave them branded as " not ok" or borderline or slut or some other harmful denigration of what is and always will be normal teenage hormonal behavior,
agreed. It's also revealing of how much power we've surrendered to mental health practitioners that we seek a clinical label for something rooted in emotion and expression.
