1 thing never explored in the series which the film did very well

Cole never questions his sanity in the series, he always seems on-point, focused and assured even after his jumps

I remember in the film there was a part where Bruce Willis (as Cole) quite excellently goes through a phase of believing he truly could be insane, he is in the mental ward and manages to be convinced, and convinces himself, that all the time-travel stuff is simply him just being a psycho

they should have done likewise in the first Season of this show, too bad they didn't it really would have added to the great 12 Monkeys

I suspect that the reason they didn't feature Cole's sanity (or lack of it) in the TV series is that the film puts forward the possibility that Cole is actually an inmate in the asylum and that it might all be in his head - the entire film is presented from his viewpoint, after all. Given that the TV series has a number of different characters' viewpoints, they couldn't really have gone down that road.

yes they could

they could have spent a whole episode in Season 1 doing so
and it would have been excellent
