Pacalioglu is a Turkish surname.

Yea I thought the same thing, maybe they will explain it in the show :)

I was shocked to hear that name in the first episode. However, he prounounces it wrongly. :)

If it's ever explained, he'll probably turn out to be of Greek descent, if not that, Armenian. I don't expect a Turkish character.

Greek or Turkish would be completely reasonable, as, while originally Turkish in origin, names with the -oglu ending have found their way into Greek as well. Especially for Greeks whose families were from Constantinople.

I just wonder if there was some forethought because as I understand Pacali -- is a name of a special type of pigeon and birds are often said to be spirit messengers -- just some food for thought -- (oglu -- son of)
