Oh, hey, only about a month from now! Cheers, I've been missing it. This is good to know.

4/20 - Season 3 Release Day! :-) Do you know anywhere to watch this aside from Hulu? How long does it usually take for episodes to hit places like Putlocker or torrent sites? Sorry, I try not to use those other sites too much...I just REALLY prefer to not stream things when I watch (yeah, I'm weird I guess lol). So I had to use Putlocker for the entire run of the Hulu series 11.22.63.

But yeah, hope to watch Season 3 soon. Definitely a fan of this show. Watched most eps of Seasons 1 and 2 so far. Again, mostly out of order...yup, definitely weird like that lol One of the better shows I've discovered over this past year (really had a lot more free time this year, so its given me a lot more time to check out a lot more shows, discover little underrated gems like this one, and really give them a chance and get into them - sweet!). Accidentally stumbled on the show On Demand one time when I was looking up Tyler's filmography on there. Decided to give it a shot and check out the episodes that had the most appealing/hilarious plot descriptions - so that explains why I've mostly watched out of order so far.

I'm really into that style of offbeat, quirky humor. An added plus when there's sometimes a supernatural bent like in this show :-)

Plus I really relate to that shtick Tyler does so much. That kind of good natured, loveable loser, socially awkward, slacker, f-up "everyman" with the heart of gold. A lot of critics of this show who just want to dismiss it as "stoner humor" seem to miss the point of that. He's a "likeable" character because, despite his flaws, he means well and is basically good at heart. Which is all that should matter in this world (yeah, I'm an idealist - shoot me).

And its surprisingly hard to find other people like me in this world to have a connection with, especially on the internet (the internet of all places!), which is disappointing, so yeah, that's a big part of the reason I'm attracted to shows/characters like this. Its a nice change/break from all the alpha male crap society puts on guys like me...all that pressure and judgment when all we're looking for is love and acceptance to be the people we are. So its nice to find kindred spirits like the main dude on this show, so to speak ;-)

Speaking of spirits, I've noticed that most people do have a natural tendency to fear or distance themselves from those who seem a little "different" from the herd (such as being a little more empathic or sensitive or more open/in touch with the spirit world than most). Which also sucks and is disappointing. Which makes me wish I had this main character's (sorry I suck with names lol) talent and could be a medium myself! Then at least maybe I'd have a shot at making money at being "weird" :-) Since the whole 9-5 thing didn't end up working out so well. Hey, at least I tried...

Anyway, so yeah, not all fans of this show are stoners. Nothing against them...I always wanted to try it, but I guess I've always just been too uncool, too unconnected, or too sheltered, since the opportunity has just never arose and I've never really known anyone who's offered :-/ Kinda sucks and its kinda weird to think about, since I went away from home to a 4 year college and everything, went to parties, etc, but oh well. I guess some people just kinda fall thru the cracks when it comes to certain "social opportunities" in life like that lol But yeah, not all the fans are stoners. We just wish we could be ;-) So please don't generalize.

I also really liked Tyler in Tucker & Dale Vs Evil where he played a very similar type character (sans medium abilities). Checked out a couple episodes of Reaper and thought it was ok. Cool that Kevin Smith directed the pilot...he and Tyler seem a bit like kindred spirits.

Never heard of the show Sons of Tucson that a lot of you are mentioning. Should I check it out? Is it the same style of offbeat, quirky humor I relate to so much?

For a point of reference, other comedy/dramedy shows I've recently gotten into (some more than others): Animals (HBO), Togetherness (also HBO - big Duplass Bros fan), Superstore, Man Seeking Woman, Baskets, The Last Man On Earth, Silicon Valley, Portlandia, Key & Peele, Flight of the Conchords, Arrested Development, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I know some of those have been around for awhile, but as I said, I'm a bit of a late bloomer getting into lots of shows - taking advantage of my recent increase in free time :-) Definitely relate to those flawed but good hearted, "loveable loser" types you find in a lot of those shows. Wish I could find more people like that IRL, but at least I've found a few.

Also, are there any other shows like those (besides Sons of Tucson) I might like? Thanks...Peace :-)

If you liked Tucker and Dale Vs Evil I highly recommend Reaper

Reaper

Remember when this show came out I was kinda put off as thought it was a rip off of Brimstone, despite Reaper being a comedy. Love Tyler though so sure I'll check it out one day.

Oh Reaper is so good. Killed off in its prime, too. I love missy peregrym too, so I'm sure that factors in my opinion but it's a great show. Tyler plays basically the same character minus seeing dead people. I wish they would have at least given it a closure movie or something.

Reaper and Brimstone do have similar core concepts, but it's a far cry from being original to either. It was almost certainly sheer coincidence that they both recycled it, one seriously, one comically. The idea of a bounty hunter for escaped souls from Hell is so old, I don't even know when was the first time I read or saw it... I think it goes back a few hundred years at least.

Anyway, they're both great in their very different ways. I'm re-watching Reaper right now, pretty much because of just having seen Deadbeat, and it really holds up. The themes are absolutely classic and the execution is sublime. It's extremely funny, and at the same time you're laughing, it gets under your skin and you start to care about the characters, too. The entire cast is terrific - not a clunker in the bunch. I recommend it, heartily.

"Uncles are creepy by definition, man. Have you not been watching your SVU?"

If you haven't seen Tyler's film Someone Marry Barry, I recommend you do. Definitely nail he loveable loser character in that.

TV show wise, probably Workaholics (stoners) and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia (drunks).

Community was pretty great at the start, had a lull when they sacked the show runner, then almost pulled it back for the last season. Can be quite weird and has a ton of pop references, the variety in the episodes was insane at times.

I'm not a fan of American football (from the UK), but was a big fan of The League. Mostly for the genius that is Jason Mantzoukas, guy is fricking hilarious. So happy to see him pop up in the new season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which has continued (for me) the excellent run of shows starring SNL alumni after 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation.

For something more absurd, anything that David Wain/Michael Ian Black/Michael Showalter are involved with. And Ken Marino. Start from the Wet Hot American Summer movie and work it out from there.

Yeah, think I should go lie down now!

Season 3 now added to Kickass Torrents for all those not into streaming on Hulu like me - Sweet.

A couple more shows I forgot to mention that I've gotten into this past year (comedic shows with sympathetic/relateable protagonists): Hello Ladies and Bored To Death. Both HBO shows. Having the gift of all this free time to check out and get into so many shows (not sure how the rest of you all do it...trying to keep up with pop culture and have much free time/time to myself was hell when I was doing the whole 9-5 corporate slave thing), I figured subscribing to HBO would really pay off - and it has :-) Thankfully its a real channel and not a streaming site like Hulu or I'd be screwed, haha.

And yeah, believe it or not, though I've long wanted to try it, I haven't yet had the opportunity to smoke weed. So I'm just a stoner in spirit, haha. Definitely a slacker, though (actually only half true, but I can say it as a joke because I can laugh at myself and not take myself too seriously, whereas other people take themselves and me too seriously IMO so they usually don't get my "joke" and they try to correct me or something, trying to put me on the "right path" lol). I definitely have the proper mindset and worldview of a stoner, I think.

And I've asked previous therapists and psychiatrists about if they think I should try it for medicinal purposes (anxiety, etc), but they all shot me down :-/ Bastards. So I always laugh when I see how easily people acquire it in movies and shows. Makes me envious, since that hasn't been my reality at all. Its funny how people look down on these stoner slackers as these so-called "losers" (hate that term - life shouldn't be a competition), but I figure they must have some social skills to at least acquire the weed lol People are harsh.

I'm sure people here will be cynical (I've heard paranoia is another mark of a stoner, haha) and not believe me, but whatever. I'm used to being misunderstood. I just keep being myself and putting myself out there and that's all I can do. Hopefully some will understand and connect with my words. PM me if you feel what I'm saying or have anything informative to tell me, since I don't often read replies to my posts. Too many jerks around here, so its not worth it (told you I was highly sensitive, haha).

Mark my words, though: Someday I will try it (weed). Its good to have goals - Aim High ;-)
