The problem I have with the survivor (spoiler)

Assuming this is a "alien depopulation of earth" movie, and the remaining people at the end are the survivors of their ship, wouldn't this be problem for the remaining earth population?

Is it survival of the fittest, or survival of the best liar and schemers. There has to be a lot of people who are similar to Eric left in the end who would lie, cheat, and kill to survive. Is this who humanity wants left to represent us?

But at the end you see some children who I assume were survivors on their respective ships, and a pregnant woman. Surely some different type of criteria existed for them, unless the people of those ships did vote for them to live?

I have no idea. I'm just throwin' it out there.

Not a bad movie. While watching it, I knew the ending was gonna be of a ambiguous nature. Hopefully we'll see a 2nd one and get some clarity.

As a matter of fact I think it is. I agree that in a developed society like ours with no immediate threats to our existence - the qualities Eric demonstrates in order to win aren't something we would consider "good". But facing a new world under Alien control, that kind of resourcefulness would be a great asset and give him a far better chance at thriving long term compared to another candidate who perhaps only won due to the compassion of their group.

Excellent point. Thanks.

That is indeed an excellent point. The Earth will not be able to formulate much in the way of resistance if all that is left is children and pregnant women.

Okay but what sort of resistance do you think one could possibly have with a bunch of cowards and liars? You don't think they would turn on one another the first chance that they got.

They would know how they survived the circle and I'm sure they would suspect how other non-pregnant women or child, survived as well. So that resistance would last all of two seconds before an actual blood bath took place.

What the Hell? If there was an alien race doing this to us, creating the game and allowing us the freedom to choose the gameplay if not the actual rules, then why in god's name would they want the person who was resourceful enough to win to be part of the new humanity? Wouldn't the winners be the most likely to find a way to resist and oppose the aliens?

The instrument has yet to be invented that can measure my indifference to that remark.

Resist? The aliens had their fun and were seen leaving at the end of the movie

Assuming this is a "alien depopulation of earth" movie,

It's silly to make that assumption.

WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie.

I think they spelled it out in the film

The Circle was set up so that humans would decide, for and among themselves, who was worthy of survival

If we were dumb enough to choose only children, the children would have to survive on their own

If we weren't smart enough to preserve doctors, engineers and others with vital civilizational skills, then so be it

The choice is ours

true.
but i highly doubt the "survivors" will be left to actually rebuild society
