The rain magic

I know its all special effects but is that possible in real life?

reply

I guess that with a stroboscopic light like he says it could be done... kinda. But he melts into water and nobody asks how he did it LOL

reply

Not really, even with a light trick people would still feel and hear the actual rain..

"You'll be taking a soul train straight to a disco inferno where you never can say goodbye!"

I thought that was coolest part of their trickery!

reply

About melting act in the end: I know it is a long shot, but hologram maybe?

(given all the sci-fi tech gear we've seen in sequel)

reply

Right (the melting into water thing, although I guess if he had a trap door or something???)

Re: the raindrops thing...it appears even the writers felt it was a bit too much, hence the forced exposition lines by JE about how he supposedly did it (smh)

I had heard this sequel was supposed to be better than the first one...nope.

"She was possessed by a very simple idea that changed everything. That our world wasn't real."

reply

I thought it was doneby sound. I've seen an experiment in youube that shows how a peculiar sound frequency could do thins like that to water.

reply

The actual answer is, of course, no.

reply

Of course it can't be real!

Strobe lights can alter your eye's refresh rates to give your brain a false illusion. but rain isn't uniform, they scatter all over the place, there is no way altering your eye's refresh rate will have this effect because the rain drops won't be in the same place

reply

The bigger question you should ask is

Why did those people have rain gear when two blocks away no one else did? They knew lex Luther was going to make it rain there?

reply

It's London?

reply

i didnt know it was normal in london to be raining only 2 blocks away. when completely dry elsewhere

reply

It wasn't dry elsewhere, it was raining everywhere, which is why they *spoiler* faked rain on the plane at the end. Because it was raining in London. Though the movie was inconsistent with that, from scene to scene. Like, when little Franco was doing his bit, it wasn't raining. Though technically he started first, so maybe it started raining later in the evening.

I mean, I guess if Little Franco started first, and then Janis Ian started hers second, and Lex Luthor started his third, it could have been raining by the time Lex started, and not been for the other two.

Then again who knows how it works in London. I hear their nannies fly

reply

maybe i missed it but i dont recall seeing people in rain gear or using umbrellas at the other two locations that tricks were being shown. the plane "rain" was because the plane was suppose to be traveling through a storm. but when they got into it on the ground it wasn't raining

reply

Are you, like, seriously having, like, this, like, discussion, like, right now? I mean, like, seriously??

reply

uhhhh what?

reply

He was attempting to make fun of the way I speak.

And yes, I am having this conersation, on this conversation board, which is aptly titled "Rain Magic." Which makes me curious why you are here, asking what I'm doing here, when it should be *beep* OBVIOUS

reply

Actually thats pretty normal everywhere. Rain comes from thing called clouds, clouds have beginning and the end. Sometimes that end passes you by and you see the corner of the rain start and stop. in strong rain that could mean you are literally standing 2 meters from a wall of rain while you yourself are dry.

The spirit of abysmal despair

reply

That's exactly what I was thinking!

reply

That entire scene was stupid and ridiculous and his exit made it even worse... they can do actual magic now? Did they go to school with Harry Potter or something?

reply

Check out this video: Science is really advancing itself. I just found out there is a digital waterfall graphic printer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7bQ5Qz1QQM

reply

After only seconds, it was obviously strobes. I was doubly sure when I they changed the speed of the drops to go backwards. In reality, this would have been not big news to an appreciable number of random public members witnessing it.

But I kept thinking "the drops are actually falling, so they would still be getting rain on their faces", but that wasn't happening. So, more Hollywood tricks to aid in the illusion rather than it being believable on its own.
