Where did Dylan's powers go?

So, Mark Ruffalo (Dylan), at the end of the first movie, was a master magician.
I mean a real magician.
This guy was better than the 4 horsemen put together.
He is able to escape from Morgan Freeman's cell, with a click of his fingers.
He could make anybody believe, whatever he wanted them to believe.

In this sequel, he appears to have lost all his powers and is resorting to fighting thugs in the street, with his fists. And took one heck of a beating.
He got taken hostage, thrown in a box and left for dead.

Where did all his powers go?

Agreed. How they written him in this movie is a major disservice. The guy is supposed to be an intelligent puppet master, but instead he is trying to fool the FBI by suggesting pigeons? The guy would be on psych eval the next day.

I think the movie will repeat (the first movie) their old self if Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) still a super intelligent magician... and I'll tell, it will became boring. I think this second movie was for the "downfall" chapter of them unlike the first movie which is so perfect to them. I think the writers of this movie take a good job for making this film.

It should have been him getting the horsemen out of trouble. Not the other way around. He should have just been in the sidelines watching them and coming to the rescue as needed.

Actually I thought that the fight scene in the marketplace made him look like sem sort of super ninja until they cold cocked him.
