We have to start ignoring race altogether
It’s the only way to get rid of racism. Stop referring to people as Asian or Black, instead call them “people” and “human beings”.
shareIt’s the only way to get rid of racism. Stop referring to people as Asian or Black, instead call them “people” and “human beings”.
shareTo get rid racism, you have to get over thinking it’s bad to call someone black or Asian.
shareIt’s not bad, but we need to stop acknowledging skin color because talking about it doesn’t help. White People never acknowledge themselves as White and it’s why they hardly deal with racism because they can’t get offended if their skin color isn’t part of their identity. Blacks on the other hand make such a big deal about “being black” that it only hinders them.
shareI admitted to a friend of mine recently that on the rare occasion I run into a Black person, I will say I ran into a Black person, even though I wouldn't say I ran into a White person. I am aware of it, and admitted it.
But I had the opportunity to run into many different people in a line of work, and I always was happy to get the chance to service a Black person. I wanted to prove to them and myself that I was perfectly comfortable, perfectly happy, to give that person the best service I would give anyone, maybe even better.
I truly felt, in a small way, I might be breaking down some of the crappy experiences maybe they have had in the past, or feel are being imposed on them now.
I think they can tell when they're being patronized.
shareYou can think what ever you want. I enjoy all my clients, and I especially enjoy treating my non-white clients with warmth and good humor. It's not an act. I hope when we part ways they think to themselves, he sure is a nice young man.
Perhaps you have difficulty being cheerful and genuine with strangers, but I don't. And since I live in a predominantly white community, I try to make sure everyone knows we all belong here, in my own humble fashion.

Dont feel bad. If I refer to someone unknown, then the listener only has me as an example.
Then I may seek to differentiate the unknown person from myself. I am a white male, early 40s, art and science centric interests, short, and lean.
The unspoken understanding between the listener and me is the assumption by default that I am describing someone similar to myself. Or the listener may envision someone like themselves instead of theyre a narcissist ;)
They assume this until something differentiates. So I may list differences from me to correct the assumptions.
If I use a pronoun Im already hitting gender, maybe I drop a "she" and now the mystery person is female. I may call the person a kid or a dinosaur, separating their age from me. Maybe this lady believes in aliens or maybe she's a rocket scientist, both differ from me.
If I never mention race, the listener is seeing my race. Now I say black and that changes too.
Simple character descriptors, and they all have stereotypes. The kid might be seen as silly or unwise yet could be 1000x more intelligent, perhaps even more wise, than an old person. A kid with no hate is far wiser than a racist old codger.
ALSO there are times when the context is so overbearing that I do in fact specify the color of another white person. Like if I talked about visiting India and how I kept running into white people, it was annoying.
Do I hate whites? No, I just came for India, and running into other white people is annoying because half of them are tourists, and my goal is to avoid tourist areas to see the real India, the daily life.
I can tell a racist joke to my non white friends because they know its a joke. I can happily talk about their race because thwy have never seen me flinch or cringe or stiffen up when a racial issue comes around.
They see that I treat race as a simple detail, and a historical footnote.
A racist person can be spotted without them ever saying anything racist.
This is how shoplifters are spotted.
i'm offended by the term "people," what about the animals, are they lesser than "people?"
That's not how humanity works.
That doesn't work. Maybe it's part of human mentality, but people use differences as an excuse to raise themselves above other people (hierarchy). They also target them for hatred or to scapegoat. If it's not race, then it's going to be something else like religion, ethnicity, nationality, income, region, ideology, language, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Meanwhile ignoring racism or any bigotry doesn't magically make it disappear. Unfortunately, it becomes worst because you're ignoring a problem and like I wrote, people will always be around to exploit hate for their own personal gain and try to take it to the next level.
Short history lesson:
Greenwood, Oklahoma was a very rich black town with many prominent business owners, lawyers and doctors living there during the time of segregation. It's nickname was "The Black Wall Street". A white mob came and killed hundreds of black people, burned homes and businesses and left 10,000 homeless. Blacks were forced to leave the town. Sundown towns were a common occurrence throughout the U.S.. Blacks were forced to leave through violence (until 1960s) or through racist policies (current) leading to segregated towns. Jews, Asians, Italians, etc were also forced out of towns. There are 10,000 sundown towns throughout the U.S.
The point being that you could be minding your own business, but hate will find you anyway.
What you’re talking about is mass genocide, arson, and assault....you will go to jail in 2018 for this so what exactly is your point? If we ignore race that a mob of white people will slaughter blacks and the courts will turn a blind eye?
I’m not talking about ignoring hate, I’m talking about ignoring race. If minorities are so insecure by the color of their own skin in 2018 then maybe they should move to a country where they’re no longer the minority. White people for the most part don’t ever think about skin color nor do they care about race in general...it never even enters their mind. But minorities have been brainwashed into seeing racism everywhere they look, it’s a sad state of affairs here in America.
The only way to stop racism is for minorities to grow thicker skin and to start acting more like white people (not playing the victim card, ignoring race, speaking in complete sentences and showering every day).
"...maybe they should move to a country..."
A racist comment from a racist. Blacks have lived and built America since the 1600s. You're probably from a recently immigrated family. Because you have a problem with America's diversity, I suggest you return to your family's place of origin since you haven't been here too long. You won't be missed.
"The only way to stop racism is for minorities to grow thicker skin and to start acting more like white people (not playing the victim card, ignoring race, speaking in complete sentences and showering every day)."
Since you have so much hatred for nonwhites, you should leave asap.
"White people for the most part don’t ever think about skin color nor do they care about race in general"
You're the one who brought up the subject re: skin race and race. You're not too bright, are you?
"racist policies (current)"? Huh? There are no policies that are racist. If you're referring to the enforcement of immigration laws, or attempts to prevent terrorism, you simply don't know what you're talking about. Your self-satisfied, condescending claim to be giving a "history lesson" is a joke.
shareYou appear to be having a problem following the subject matter since you're off topic.
Nevertheless, most terrorism is domestic done by groups such as these:

Can you explain why ICE has tried to deport over 1,000 American-born citizens and held one man for three years?
Are you suggesting that hierarchies (aka: an elite) don't exist? Women always had the vote? Gays have never been attacked and were always allowed to marry? Jim Crow never existed and some Southerners don't run around with a proslavery flag?
People who don't know history lack the knowledge re: the struggle for equality under drastic discrimination. A library card can only be a benefit.
There is some irony in that we are on a Movie and Entertainment site, and there is a big premium on appearances, i.e., being Good-Looking ! So we ignore people's ethnicity while we praise their aesthetic appeal? That doesn't seem to gibe. And some people of all backgrounds like to Emphasize their cultural roots, be it Norwegian, Nigerian or Japanese, etc. A little hard to get away from.
shareIf we stop calling people "men", "women", "guys", "girls", etc. and call people "people" instead, will that get rid of sexism?
What kind of stupid argument is that?
Calling someone based on their race/ethnicity isn't an issue. Why is it ok to call people based on their height, age, or hair color, but it's not ok to call someone based on their race/ethnicity?
Even if people stop talking about race, racism will still exist. People just won't express it much. But that doesn't mean racism will be gone.
Racism exists solely to boost one's ego. That's it.
