Girls from first film

Has it been addressed yet whether or not the guys will still be dating their respective girlfriends from the first film? I would imagine not, simply because it limits a lot of the things the writers can do with the story if the guys can't be their usual, bumbling selves while hitting on some girls way out of their league.

"I'm gonna kill that mother *beep*
"Pun intended?"

That sounds a lot like me, back in my single days.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

Lucy (Simon's girlfriend) is but not the others.

At least one is still around she's in trailer but I think it would be stupid if they had all split up, it would be more realistic if they just cheated on their birds like most English lads do on holiday (same for girls when they go on girls holidays. Only a mug believes his birds not cheating when she goes magaluf)

Not strictly true, some people have morals

Or 'ethics', as Neil would say.

reply

Actually he would say 'efics'.

You don't know sh!t, Jon Snow!

reply

I said most not all. I wouldn't cheat myself but know many people who do both male and female

I'm really disappointed that so few of the memorable characters from the original TV series will appear in The Inbetweeners 2. I accept that if this were real life, the boys would probably no longer be in regular contact with many of their ex-girlfriends from school, or their head of 5th form, Mr Gilbert, or Donovan, the school bully, or fat John, to name but a few.

However, one should not forget that the popularity of the TV series revolved around the antics of four boys who were too young to be adults and too old to be children (hence the title, I presume) and yet the four actors who have been retained for the lead roles in the latest movie are all now close to being thirtysomethings, if they aren't already. So if this were real life, they probably wouldn't still be going on holidays together and acting like wild teenagers. They might well have good jobs, steady relationships and be trying to get on the property ladder. It could therefore be argued that the producers of this movie are stretching credibility to the limit anyway by continuing to cash in on the popularity of the original school-based format with lead characters that are now so much older. In that case, I can't see any reason why they couldn't have continued to include at least some of the original supporting cast who helped make the show such a big success on the small screen.

The character of Mr Gilbert was just too good not to be included in this sequel. If I had written this movie, I would have him still associating with the boys, but no longer as a teacher. He would have been sacked for some unfortunate incident with a pupil and would now be angrily serving the lads on the checkout at their local supermarket, or working as a disgruntled bus driver, abusing all the passengers and driving dangerously! The comic possibilities are virtually endless but unfortunately the makers of this movie failed to notice any of them.

I would also love to have seen what sex-crazy Charlotte Hinchcliffe was up to now (single mum in a council flat??), or what became of geeky Susie (Anabel Barnston) after she took her 'A' levels four years early (maybe standing as the youngest-ever parliamentary candidate for the Conservatives??), or Simon's ex with the daft smile, Tara (Hannah Tointon), or Neil's hot sister Katie, or fit Ulster girl Lauren Harris (Jayne Wisener) who chose Simon over Will in 'The Field Trip' to Swanage, or Becky (Clemency Hallinan) who snogged Simon at Camber Sands in 'Caravan Club' but wasn't willing to go any further, or Hannah Fields (Holly Peplow) who gave Simon a handjob in full view at the under 18's disco in 'Work Experience'! There isn't even any room in this film for the long-term object of Simon's desire, Carli (Emily Head).

Let's also not forget that Will's mum (Belinda Stewart-Wilson) and Neil's gay dad (Alex Macqueen) figured so often and so prominently in the comic dialogue of the four boys, so it is criminal to leave them both out too. The only parent from the original TV series who actually reappears in this sequel is Jay's dad, but why only him?

Overall, I think this film is just a wasted opportunity that can only end up disappointing the fans of the TV series.

Which character from the original TV series would you ideally have brought back and what would they be doing now in the sequel? Please share your thoughts here for a laugh as I doubt there'll be too many in the film itself!

Nope, it's called the "Inbetweeners" because they're not popular but they're not complete geeks either, so they're somewhere in the middle.

That is priceless haha I could so picture that. Serving them in some little chip shop as it's all the work he can get after some incident got him sacked from the school. He would have on a little apron and a hair net, be super grumpy and all the guys would take the piss out of him. Priceless.

I can see you make a habit of missing the point.

I watched a one-hour programme on E4 last night (The Inbetweeners Go Global), which was a very thinly-disguised promo for the new film (Film4 has distribution rights, I notice).

It included exclusive clips from the new film and it became clear to me that Will's mum - Belinda Stewart-Wilson - does indeed feature in a couple of scenes in The Inbetweeners 2. I also saw Neil's gay dad (Alex Macqueen) in the background of the same scene as Belinda at the airport. I've re-checked the IMDb credits for the film and Belinda is definitely not credited, so maybe some other regulars could pop up too without being credited..? Or maybe the IMDb credits are incomplete??

Sorry if anyone was misled by my original comments. One would expect actors of the calibre of Belinda to get a screen credit at least, unless it is a really brief appearance. Anyway, it seems we will get a very brief glimpse of her cleavage so that's to be welcomed!

I believe they are Inbetweeners because they are all fans of the Britpop band Sleeper's song of a similar name - obviously! Duuuuuuh.

reply

Was that confirmed by the creators? The show is all about the awkward adolescent stage so I'd also assumed that was the reason for the name.

In terms of pecking order, they definitely seem to be at the bottom, particularly Will.

Carly was an old joke by series 3, I was glad to see her gone. She was just a narcissistic user who kept Simon on a short leash

reply

Two of them moved to Leeds to have their own TV show.

will states he got dumped, jane and lucy are in this, but theres no mention of neils girl

reply

Alison and Lisa (Will and Neil's girls) do get a mention by Lucy, i believe in the second Skype call. One is self-harming and has moved back to Coventry (?Lisa) and the other one I can't remember what she is doing.

Only Jane and Lucy appear.

reply

Frankly, they kinda ruined the Lucy character. From the really nice girl in the first film, she's now a possessive, cheating bitch.

Have you ever talked to a corpse? It's boring!

reply

I agree. I liked her very much from the first film, I wanna punch Simon so bad for mistreating her but in this film they ruined her very much.
