The film ends abruptly, although satisfying. It's a tough film to summarize, in part because I had a few drinks throughout and in part because the film was drawn out in small places and abstract in other places. I am speechless because of my empathy and anger that we today in 2015 have people struggling for decent paying work trying to provide for themselves or their family and in which this film portrays in the not-so-distant future. It's not a brilliant film but a solid dream like sci-fi that might pull a few strings in your emotions if you have some empathy. Nothing too strong but I did roll a tear or two down my face as I made associations to people I know that are struggling today.
Yes, I like what you call a "sad little space" because it tends to be overlooked in the "big space" futuristic movies. It's as if there is one of those big space movies going on in the city and the world, but for these characters, it's almost not even interesting. The explosions and things remind me of the series Continuum (2012). I very much like that the explosions are not even explained. It is like the singularity has happened, and now all of humanity is quickly being left behind like we currently abandon PCs, TVs with picture tubes, and other e-waste. Even moving ourselves into young, healthy bodies won't let us keep up with the pace of progress. All we have left are each other.
Yes. This film recognizes that, and thrusts us hurtling into this terrible world in which it is appallingly, and terrifyingly quietly, clear that few will survive.

Hold on a minute. How exactly does the movie make it clear that this is clearly our fate? I think it just suggests one possible outcome. The movie Her (2013) shows another post-singularity world where we become like pampered pets, and that seems just as likely as this one. And there are many other versions as well. I think this is a cautionary tale at best, not any sort of prediction.
Thank you for that, I guess, but honest to God, it's people like you who make IMDb insufferable sometimes. I mind the blatant trolls a lot less than I mind the posters who just can't stand being agreed with.

I thought it was brilliant too, and I agree that it's a hard film to stop thinking about. It seeps into you because it touches upon so many issues relevant to life today, but it's also artfully executed and has enough nuance to not beat you over the head. It's just... gorgeous.
An interesting near-future sci-fi movie based on a technology 'what if' but all I could think about was how could people be so poor and side-lined in such a fabulously advanced and wealthy city.
And then I started to look out the window at the world I live in.
