Solid in places but weak in others
Nina, appears to be a stripper, who is stranded in a remote part of Canada after an argument. She hooks up with a man she met the night before, who takes her back to a hunting cabin, where there is a bachelor party taking place.
From there, things go rather wrong with hunting accidents, intoxication and mysterious guests. It's a nice idea but there are too many well trodden paths in the first hour (it reminded me of 'Very Bad Things' in that respect), then in the last act, the messages get rather muddled. There are also some wildly odd character choices and one too many dream sequences.
Is the film about toxic masculinity as some have noted? Yes, probably but there is also an underlying theme to this film that I just couldn't work out, which is impossible to write about without spoiling.
Hunting Daze is a solid watch for some chaotic antics in the forest, but just rather luke warm in the places that really matter.
