Ranked worse than John Wick ?

I watched this at the weekend and it seemed like an engrossing 8/10 movie which is likely to garner an Oscar nomination for Ben Foster's excellent performance. I'm surprised at how poorly its been received here and on Rotten Tomatoes. Its currently ranked worse than John Wick which was a movie without a storyline with an actor who can't act. Where did it go wrong ?

One can possibly conclude that the public at large judges this as much about Armstrong as a despicable individual as anything. Few people want to sit through a movie where by the end you can't stand the lead character and walk away disgusted, no matter how good the filmmaking.

It's also been said this film was made too soon, and I agree. Another decade to put some distance between reality and a "story" would have helped.
