Hairpin bend

There's a scene in the film where a coach parks up/breaks down right next to a hairpin bend in the Alps... and it looks almost exactly like the one that Michael Caine's gang spun out on at the end of the Italian Job. Anyone know if this was the case, and this is a little nod by Frears to the classic film?

reply

Yes. There is only one hairpin bend on a mountain in all of Europe and that is the one.

ROTFL. Yep, I deserved that! 😀

soz. couldnt resist. I really doubt it though. ive seen both and apart from obvious similarities. It seems an unusal thing to reference given the tone of the movie though.

that's possible, for all sorts of reasons I guess. For one thing, it could well be some a private road containing this great example of a hairpin bend - rather than pick one at random and then somehow close a random public road for hours
