Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. the Next Lance Armstrong?

The first article below from Thomas Hauser came out 9/9/15. It's a long but interesting read for those interested. USADA responded to that article on 9/17/15 and Thomas Hauser responded today, 10/14/15.

I wish the main stream media picked this story up. Mayweather Jr. for years has claimed he wanted to clean the sport of boxing up from PED use, that all he wanted was a fair playing field, and now, is it possible that all along, he was the biggest culprit?

Wasn't Maywether always calling for Manny Paquio (misspelt I know ) to be drug tested as he was small for a welterweight?

reply

Yep.

reply

People just need to understand that without PED'S there is no pro sports. It's just not going to happen.

reply

Doesn't make it right, ethical or healthy, and I'll continue to watch pro sports AND support tougher drug screening because its fun to see arrogant athletes get outed as cheating, immoral asshats.

reply

True. Plenty of athletes have won clean. I realize it's not likely the majority, and we sometimes see the world with blinders, but there have been times in sports, even cycling, when clean athletes have been able to compete, and win.

Armstrong transcended that though. Not only was he one of the biggest dopers ever, he bullied others into doing it, and even lied straight to the face of cancer patients. It takes a particularly morally bankrupt individual to do that.

reply

How do you know any athletes have won clean in the modern era? You just don't know that, this is what's wrecking sport, 10 years ago people said Armstrong had defied accusers by showing again and again he was clean. Read Tyler Hamilton's book, they avoid random tests by not answering the door if they are hot. They are only caught if there's a mistake and they open the door to the postman at that very second, I seem to recall an Irish swimmer getting caught because there was a family party and kids let the testers in.

reply

I don't deny what you say, and I did read Tyler's book.

I guess it depends on how you define the "modern era", to define who is doping and who isn't, to what level, and who can complete. I don't for one second believe everyone in cycling is clean, or the majority are clean. I'm sure blood doping and microdosing of drugs like epo and hgh still exist, and the omerta still exists. That wasn't what I was saying in my post.

Don't know how it was before. But now you can't just skip a random test. You have to be "available" 24/7 and provide info on where you will be so that they can find you for random tests. If WADA shows up for a random test you have take/give it. If you miss (or "miss") three of these it counts like a positive test and will get you suspended.
