It really is hard to believe Contador stayed clean and ignored the doping on the Astana team, especially when he beat a doper in the Tour.

Which really doe snot make Lance a cheat IMO. If everyone does it, there is not much advantage to it.
While what you say is true, and Contador has been suspended for doping as well, the fact is, no one was able to compete and win between about 1994 and 2010 or so clean. The most talented riders in the world who didn't dope, could barely keep up.
Having said that, if you read the USADA's Reasoned Decision, and Tyler Hamilton's book, and dig into the issue, you'll find that USPS had the most sophisticated doping program of any team in cycling during Lance's reign.
Would Lance have still won the Tour de France had no one doped (and he never gotten cancer?) that's unknown. No one will ever know.
