Nobody has cared about Cycling since...

Lance Armstrong was found guilty of cheating, because he was the only thing that mattered to the sport in terms of public perception. It's a boring sport, more people should cheat. *beep* that Oprah episode, that was just ratings bait. Like anybody actually gave a *beep* besides the other racers/europeans.

reply

ah, so if no american is interested in the sport, but the rest of the world is, then it is classified as: nobody in the world interested? How unbelievable arrogant
YES others are interested in this sport, and you just classefied millions of europeans as "nobody".
NEWSFLASH: NOBODY is interested in the superbowl, american football and baseball

- "is this the secret headquarters of the gestapo?"
- "It was"

reply

Yeah, couldn't have said it better! Europe does not matter to popular culture in the slightest.

reply

In the U.S., if there's no ball, the general public doesn't want to hear about it. The rest of the world is more sophisticated when it comes to sports interest.

reply

I don't get it. Nascar is boring. Your US football seems to go on for hours.

Why did the Americans love cycling so much - was it just because of Lance?

Europeans love cycling. It's more than just one rider.

In Britain we've only just come good at cycling in the last few years but I've loved the sport for decades.

If you've not climbed and descended an Alp - you've not truly lived.

The problem for me is that cycling has been troubled by drugs for a very long time. For me it seems that it's a contest between chemists now and the ability to evade drug tests.

reply

As other people have already pinpointed, he was the only thing that mattered to cycling in terms of... American public perception.

It's a somewhat tipical attitude in American people. You tend to consider your interests as global. You should be a little more open minded. The world doesn't end where your borders do.

Nobody has cared about Cycling since...Lance Armstrong was found guilty of cheating

The sentence should be "Nobody has cared about Cycling (IN MY COUNTRY) since...Lance Armstrong was found guilty of cheating"

Hello, the U.S.A. is not "everybody", welcome to reality.

Maybe in the USA professional cycling was only popular when Lance Armstrong was winning championships (but he was cheating, so it doesn't count) and is not popular anymore. But saying not being popular in the USA is not being popular for anyone is so ignorant, egocentric and absurd!

Professional Cycling is a really popular sport specially in Europe and South America (yes, the USA is not the whole America), it is followed by billions of people/TV viewers every summer (when the championships season takes place), it is followed by three-quarters of the planet earth by TV successfully (UK, Brazil, Spain & Japan specially). It has been popular before, during and after Lance Armstrong. Just take a look of the reception of the recent winner of the Vuelta in his country: Colombia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWfZz6TqHvk

Time to say the USA is not the center of the universe, not even the most populated country of the world. Even Cricket (probably not known in America at all) has more TV audience records than American Football (yes, India is a country).

The Brits care about cycling.

It's that man again!!
