Best of the Best 2 remake - Spoilers
This honestly felt more like that than a Kickboxer remake or reboot. The added weapons in the fights were terrible. Even the death scene was the sword looked cheaply done.
GSP should have played the lead because I think the accent and fighting skill set would be more like Van Damme in the original.
Batista was solid as Tong Po and I loved how he used Muay Thai well with so many knees and elbows and just straight ruthlessness. But that's where the magic stopped for me because we got no helicopter kicks from JCVD so his fights were okay but not like they use to be. The lead, Moussi, just didn't do it for me because his skills looked so similar to the other guys he went up against throughout the movie so he didn't really stand out enough or look unique in his style. Van Damme was one of a kind in the Original so I felt like it was clear why he was superior when he won.
They don't make Tong Po mysterious enough. They say he's killed more than half the men that have died in the arena they fight in, so who is the other tough guy killing others? They just don't make Tong Po seem like the leader of the tough guys. The guy who announced the fights reminded me of a the original Freddy Li character but was so unneeded this time around.
The editing was my least favorite part of the film. The opening credits were gorgeous with shots of Thailand. But then it jumps into Kurt wanting revenge then it jumps to before he wanted revenge and then back to the opening point and you meet random characters throughout that are hard to keep up with. If my post seems confusing that's how I felt watching this movie. The elephant scene was ridulous and dumb. Not even cool fight moves, it just looked cheap.
I was so excited for this film and followed them on Facebook and Twitter just hoping to get news and photos. I was so excited after I downloaded this on iTunes and plugged my laptop to my hdtv to watch it. What a letdown. Even Van Damme couldn't save the day because I felt Xian the trainer in the original outshines him in the role.
