The opposite of the Shark Tank

Do they start filming a lot of these and bail on a bunch of them once he realized he cannot help/not a good investment? Or perhaps they do a LOT more research than the audience is lead to believe. Because he makes a deal most of the time. he finds all these flaws that show the business owners and manages have no idea what they are doing and then he swoops in and fixes it. On Shark Tank, they run when they see that kind of stuff. I don't know how he can have any confidence that things will run decently once he steps aside. He is involved in way too many things to be hands on. I don't get it. ST makes sense. Bar Rescue makes sense b/c he just points them in the right direction and the sponsors pay for the upgrades. I don't see how this makes sense as an investment.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

yeah not exactly "Scripted" per se, but a lot of set ups. The businesses are real but they do a ton of filming, coaching, editing etc. to produce a one hour show. In fact, I know people that were on it and they said it took 72 hours of filming to make their episode!

I think he's hands on during the transition and for the grand reopening. Since he's an investor or part owner i would imagine he must have a person/dept in his company who manages and oversees these small investments to be sure they are staying on track.

What would be interesting to see is a business he has helped in the past which is now failing and see where things went wrong. Many of them are still in business so they are doing something right.

If you look at a business like Sweet Pete's, they had a great product and great people. They just had a terrible location/space. Marcus' money helped them get a new location with more space for customers and products and a decent commercial kitchen. I think he also set them up with an online business. So they were already on track for success, they just needed a little help getting there.

But a place like that coffee company or the toy company is never going to succeed because the people who own and run it don't know what they are doing.

Fraaaank. FRANK! Get my jean bin. Susie wants my jeans.

they can't get it at a gap store. There are lots of "boutique" jean shops that sell unique jeans that are very pricey. the key is they are not "brand name" jeans. It is the opposite. Most will have never heard of the brand but the fit is supposed to be much better/perfect for the individual contours of a person's body. That being said, I don't see what is so special about D&S but I suppose putting them on tv gives them a boost. That will die down and then where will they be?

Well, he will be fine regardless. Yeah in Philly there were a few of these boutique jean shops. took the ex to one once. They take some measurements and find you jeans that do fit much better than anything else she had before or after. Of course she puts on 5 pounds and she can never wear them again. Waste of money.

That's what makes the show unique. He invests his own money and lots of it and if it doesn't work out, he might take some losses. No one knows how many businesses don't make it on TV and what happens. I think he picks businesses he likes and business owners he thinks he can work with-essentially he looks at the 3 P's.

yeah it is unique. that was my point. in ST they also invest their own money. But like I said, I think they would avoid a lot of the businesses Marcus goes into.

He would have an entire team which would go into multiple businesses and perform due diligence on them before they would even consider the business being on the show. They would also know what 'the plan' is before Marcus turns up on day one.

Marcus might not know a lot of it (that way he can be surprised etc), but his team certainly does.
